I give up there is no hope... so now what?

Recommended Posts

I get 23 FPS average on Nogova, and that's with me commanding a 12 man squad of BIS Russians with nothing else placed on the island at all. If I actually play a BIS mission the frame rate drops to about 14. Excellent addons such as Inquisitors M60 drop my frame rate to less than 10. Basically this game is unplayable. I've been messing with it since the dawn of time with no success. I finally admit defeat... it seems there is nothing I can do that'll make this game run on my computer. I wish I still had my old 800mhz from 4 years ago it ran Flashpoint better than the computers I've had since then.

I have no money left in savings and am pretty much on the verge of complete hopelessness. So I can't spend any thing to upgrade my computer. Down the line though, (If I can ever find a job again in this hell hole town) what should I buy to make my computer run Flashpoint at 30+ FPS?

Here are my stats copy and pasted from System Information...

My video card is a Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200 and my sound card I believe is a soundblaster live value.

I think Flashpoint is the greatest game of all time. Sadly it hates my guts and won’t speak to me.

For the settings you have (only the resolution, maybe 1024*768 should help) and the system you have, OFP should fly smoothly , something is definitively wrong there, as i have a way lower end computer than you.

Quote[/b] ]3D_Performance="54308";

CPU_Benchmark=6382;

On my Flashpoint.cfg , i noticed than those 2 lines are exactly the same (for my system it is just at 3030), try

Quote[/b] ]

3D_Performance="6382";

CPU_Benchmark=6382;

I just noticed you said you have

Quote[/b] ]I believe is a soundblaster live value.

That could really be the source of all evil on your system according to several report on this forum (if the previous setting did not improved anything.)

Try to enable/disable EAX and Hardware Acceleration both, only one , and finally none for the OFP sound options

If nothing of this worked, try to disable the Soundblaster Live and use the onboard chip, some have reported it improved their framerate a lot.

And check for what kind of program you are running on your background, as some of them could be using all your ressources while you have no need of them.

Add to that a scan for virus/spyware to be sure no one of those nasty things are killing your ressources too.

Your ofp settings look fine. But I know that when I had a geforce 2, certain video card drivers would just kill ofp performance and others would bring it up, try upgrading or downgrading them.

Also, check to make sure that you dont have some level of AA+AF on.

Yep. Search The FAQ for "lag" and read the first matching FAQ item's points on graphic adapter settings.

lower is higher, concerning terrain grid (its the same as terrain detail in ofp, 50 is very low and 3.125 is very high)

Turn your vertical sync off. It limits Frame rate very much regardless of resolution and settings you have.

Well I just tried replacing the 3d_performance with the same number as the cpu_benchmark and I turned off vertical sync in nvidia display. No gain or loss in frame rate.

   I'll look into using onboard sount instead of the soundblaster, though I'm not sure if my computer has onboard sound or not.

*Edit* Well just checked and I'm certain I don't have onboard sound.

Even if you have no onboard chip, try to disable your sound card.

Certainly you will play without any sounds, but at least you will notice if your performance is improved (and so definitively know if your soundcard was the source of evil for OFP)

Oh, and what driver are you using for your GF4 ?

My driver is version 6.6.9.3 from 10/29/04.

I'll try turning off my sound card, I'll post the results in a bit. Also where do I disable the EAX and hardware acceleration? Are you talking about in the game options, dxdiag,both, or some where else?

By the way guys thanks for offering advice and help. I really appreciate it.

Check your task manager to see if anything erroneous is running in the background like spyware executables... like someone mentioned before disable vsync, turn off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering...lower LOD BIAS and texture quality settings in your driver control panel.

Since you say you've tried lowering settings in OFP, leave those at a moderate setting... 1024 x 768, textures between 128 and 256, increase framerate value in userinfo.cfg to around 60.

Also if you havent tried, try the -nomap command line parameter.

If thats no good, uninstall and update gfx card device drivers.

Lastly, I would suggest you uninstall OFP and OFP :R, check disk, defrag....reinstall, If you havent already that is.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure that the problem is being caused by the graphics card drivers. I've got the same sort of card, and for some reason OFP hates the drivers from 50.xx upwards.

Using the 44.03 drivers I get between 10-40 fps ( obviousely depending on the island and the number of addons used). Trying to use any of the newer drivers drops this to 2-10 fps. It seems that whatever has been improved in the later drivers doesn't agree with the old Ti series and OFP.

Hope that this helps smile_o.gif

I the exact same specs and my ofp works fine. Make sure that your AA and AF on your grahpic card isnt set too high. 16AF and 8AA will give anyone 5FPS on ofp.

But like Evil said, your problem is probly with the grahpic drivers. My GF4Ti4200 runs fine with old and new ones. Somehow i find the old ones less laggy. Im using Directx c aswell.

I have AA, Antiscroptic filtering, and vertical sync turned off.

I did try silent pro's suggestion about setting the framerate=60 in useromfp.cfg. It seemed to improve performance a bit, but infantry were really blurry one color blobs at about 50 meters and hard to tell if they were friend or foe.

Quote[/b] ]lower LOD BIAS and texture quality settings in your driver control panel.

I hate to sound dumb... but where do I find this?

Quote[/b] ]Im using Directx c aswell.

What is directx c?

LOD are settings in the FLashpoint.cfg , but you have already set them to good enough performance, judging by your Flashpoint.cfg setting and your system have the power to have the LODs with a higher quality than what you have now.

Have you tried to disable the sound card ?

The drivers you use can be a problem as said previously, nvidia drivers are never the latest=the better , especially when your card is not their latest production.

Thanks for the link Dutchie. I think I'll try some of the drivers out. I get little nervous when it comes to mother board stuff though. The patches say they are for the Intel 865p and the Intel 865pe while mine is a Intel 865perl. I'll search through the site though.

I tried disabling my sound card, no noticeable difference in performance though. I just went in through system properties right clicked on my sound card and selected disable. Was that correct?

Nother consideration: mismatched RAM memory.

Are all your RAM chips from the same manufacturer and the exact same model?

That could also be a problem, try running MemTest86

It could be a problem. But if it were, you would not see performance issues, you would see stability problems such as CTD's, BSOD's and data corruption instead.

This is a bit silly but i have to ask, Sputnik...are you running with Direct 3d - Hardware TnL selected in the OFP preferences, or are you running plain old direct 3d?

Try switching it to Hardware TnL if its not selected already...the Nvidia TnL unit is essentially what offloads a lot of effects calculations from the GPU, like bi-linear filtering, AA, AF, lighting, shadows, pixel shading, vertex shading...etc.

Not using the TnL would explain why you are experiencing performance issues.

Hope this is it , keeping my fingers crossed.

from the lines in his config

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">HW_Type="Direct3D HW T&L";

i think he is already running OFP with Direct3D HW T&L activated, not the plain Direct3D

And if it was the memory, i agree that he would have met a lot of blue screen of death and errors.

>Sputnik Monroe : you should check what kind of programs are running on your background too, maybe one of those is eating too many ressources.
