He probably means he has no credit card or something, but you can ask someone else to order it for you.

I managed to successfully captain a submarine today. And an MH-60R. It suprisingly wasn't difficult once you understand the interface, though I must say killing a submarine was much more difficult than sinking a freighter.

Anyone else manage to do both?

It's pretty good. I like the varity, and the graphics aren't bad either. The mission editor and the multiplayer sure gets my attention. biggrin_o.gif It's kinda addicting and fun 2.

No. I just managed to cruise around with the Oliver H Perry class. That's all a I can do until now biggrin_o.gif

On a related note a new seawolf submarine (USS Jimmy Carter) featuring a Multi-Mission platform and additional maneuvering devices was officially christened.

She's a beaut!

oh yes, it's addicting. now i finally shot the victor III... with some luck: i had three "crossing lines", i was NW of the "cross". i decided to fire an mk50 in there... strike!

in the replay i saw that the victor was a bit SE of my cross, but the torpedo ran straight ahead and hit biggrin_o.gif

Yes. I initially detected the sub with a sonobouy, then based on the info I got from that (the sub was NW of the bouy) I was able to lay more sonobouys and triangulate the position of the sub. At the point where the detection (pink-ish) lines occured, I dropped my dipping sonar down on continuous active ping and detected a target exactly south of my position, about 1000 yards away. I brought the helo to face 180 degrees and dropped a Mk50 - it ran south and was able to detect the sub on it's own.

I didn't know I'd killed it, though, until I got a message that the mission was complete. No water column explosion, no noise.

That one was hard - the water is so shallow. I had to get pretty far away, shot two torpedos and one of them managed to hit (I didn't notice, though, as I was too busy running away from another torpedo fired at me). The fish that they fired at me ended up hitting a cargo ship, so I got real, real lucky. Conning a sub is hard, especially when you're not allowed to sink that escort.

i fired two torpedos at the cargo ship and 2 at the escort ship (perry). then i launched active and passive CMs and tried to move away backwards. after the perry found out that torpedos were fired it changed its course in my direction and fired two torpedos.

as soon as it saw that there were coming 4 torpedos in its region it changed course to flew, letting the cargo ship alone. one torpedo hit the cargo ship, the 2 fired at me hit the CMs. my other three torpedos just disappeared as the perry was too fast...

i know, its not very professional to shoot 4 torpedos in a short delay... but i reached my objective wink_o.gif

btw the UUV is pretty useless biggrin_o.gif

How is the full game? I'm still having fun with the demo, and I'll probably buy it, but I'd like to know if the other platforms are any good and if MP is any good.

I think the potential for MP is good - I can imagine trying to conn a submarine while one or two of you hunt me down. It could be a lot of fun! I just wish there were more controllable platforms, like a Russian equivalent to the P-3 and O.H. Perry (IL-38 and Neustrashimny-class frigate maybe?). I think hunting each other in surface craft could be as much fun as it would be in a sub.

Single player game isn't bad, quite the opposite but MP is where all the fun really is. Unfortunately there isn't dedicated server or game browser so you need IRC/MSN/whatever to set up games...

There never is a need for center server for MP games to connect for Sonolysts games, massive multiplayer or large numbers of people online on a server is not their genre, so cost and lack of need for such support just about sums up why they don't use central server(s) to host/join games.

If you join a virtual navy organization like the Seawolves, its fairly easy to find someone waiting for a match.  You can enter competitions for decorations on your service record and compete in war exercises.  If you are interested, http://seawolves.org

Right now they are trying to figure out where and how to integrate the game into the organization so members can recieve points for their matches.

They've got a web server already and any average web forum software takes a lot more bandwidth and CPU time than having a master server browser.

It might be not be massively multiplayer game but having an option to host dedicated server and quick lookups if there are any games going on is convenient and does not take too much effort to implement. If open source projects like Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum Mod team can do it, then surely commercial developer ought to be able to do it.

It's not necessary and we as customers can live without it... but it would be a lot more user friendly. Game supports 30 players but try organizing those kind of games in IRC...
