Howdy all,

To celebrate the grand re-opening on the OFP Pub i have made an update to a Nam mission i made long ago.

The intro has a reworked scene and the mission itself has been redone to allow for better playability on lower end systems and also has an overall improvement to it.

Grab it and the required addons from the missions section of the Pub.

Hey Winters cool mission so far.

However since i don't know the original forgive my ingnorance for possibly asking questions answered long ago.

1. I know your missions are tough, but this tough?

On first try barely made it to the first road below the hill, where i was cut down by a machinegun emplacement.

At that moment i realised i forgot to unload my squad. Dumb isn't it? Second to that the car15 stinks in terms of accuracy, might be fine in the woods but in the open ground over the beach the AI gets just slaugthered when firefighting with that AK47 armed Vietcong. When i died there was just one other friendly still alive on that first VC command post.

The Aircav seems also to be of little help, one chopper, a Slick goes down as we hit the beach the other one some deal later. Am i to slow in taking the first CP?

The axis of advance for the SpecOps is selected worse at best upon nearing that first CP the get into crossfire and will be pretty much wiped out. I suppose this you did on purpose.

Ok so a plan for the second try is formed: Go uphill securing the right flank and hit the road near the motar emplacement. And get rid of that damn Car15 in my group. So i equip myself with a M16A1 with GL and the rest of my team with the M16A1 and two guys with a M63 whereas on guy keeps the M60.

Hit the beach again and disembark my guys. I am unluckier this time, a motar round just lands near the group and the first one is lost. Flank right and fight uphill till i hit the road.

The AI squads charging up that ravine? still got slaughtered although the VC is cut down too. Cleared out the MG emplacements and the CP. And my last heli went down.

Was down to four mates but charged on. Tried to approach on the left flank ran into some VC and that's it, killed again.

Ok time to sleep that one over, no more retries this evening.

Any hints avaiable how to beat this?

But it's a very intense mission and i like it.

Tannethal, some tips for you.

Yes, your support is only cursory one helo is supposed to get shot down (thats just a gunship anyway and it does take out the mortar team before it goes down) and the pilot and gunner if lucky enough to bail out will join your squad (although i admit this rarely happens) the Air Cav are either hit or miss, i have played it and seem them all die on the beach and i have seen them make it all the way up the hill as well.

When you start out you do have the option at the briefing screen to select whatever weapons loadout you wish. I suggest giving yourself a snipe rifle and a squaddie or 2 an M60.

And remember to order those guys to disembark once you hit the beach, they are supposed to be forcefully ejected but for some reason it wont happen most of the time, a suggestion is to highlight the team and press 4 as you near the beach and once your out of the boat hit 1 and you should be good to go.

You can also stay close to the boats at the start and the gunners will provide support fire for you. After you start up the hill your on your own.

Im glad your enjoying it so far, i think it's by far my most challenging mission.

To be honest dusand im not sure, i did add a remove bodies script but you may have lag once you hit the beach up until a few enemies get killed and deleted.

argh...the evil HMG got me, but i wont quit, i played the old version and finished it, this improved one is excellent, thank very much Winters smile_o.gif

He got me as well last night, i made it all the up the hill with my squad intact got ambushed from the rear and lost everyone and them got aced by that damn HMG.

The funny thing was after i died during the death scene i saw some more Air Cav guys running past my corpse. I guess the AI isnt all that bad in this newer version.

And one more tip, when you make it to the first village and you get the "Re-arm your squad...." message if you stay there for a couple of minutes another Air Cav helo will come and drop off another squad. Might help if running low on squaddies, they wont join your squad but you can fight alongside them if you need to.
