I usually detest this type of thread, but i'm going to post this anyway....

I watched this movie this morning for the first time in years, and thought "Hey,someone should make this for OFP"

there is a website which already has a 3D model for download as well as some sound clips.http://thinkinrussian.org

LOL, and they used the Foxhound's MiG number for it as well... hehe, does look a lot better though... looks even cooler than the MiG-42/44/whateveryouwannanumberit IMHO... but the rear-turret gunning, don't think it's gonna work, nor the rear-firing missiles... (a technology curiously put in practice in one or two "recent" Sukhoi fighters if I'm not mistaken...).

You know, that's a great idea for an addon. Of course, if it was made properly, it would be far too unbalancing to use as a fighter, unless you were to take on several squadrons of conventional AC...

That said, it would be great to use as a target for a snatch and grab, a sabotage mission, or intelligence gathering mission.

Alternatively, some people might enjoy flying it around.

Someone here was recently asking for hypothetical, or experimental Russian addons for these types of missions. What could be more hypothetical/experimental than the Firefox? Just needs a black flight-suited Clint Eastwood, and a LA-class SSN to make an awesome "steal the plane" mission.

Except for one little fact... even the author of the FS2004 model of it on the thinkrussian.org site admitted that, quote:

I spent many, many hours on this with AirED and tweaking the .cfg file putting in the 'accurate' data for the plane if it were to really exist. The sad truth is that if she were real she wouldn't be air worthy at all. So instead I just borrowed a military flight model and tweaked it quite a bit. If anyone out there would like to fiddle with the .air and .cfg files to see if they can get a better result, please feel free. We only insist that you send us a copy when you're done.

the "flight model" doesnt refer to the 3d shape of the plane, but the flight and handling characteristics, which is no big deal since who ever made it would have to make a brand new config for it anyway. there are pics of the model ingame from FS and it looks decent

Considering that this plane was entirely the creation of an American author, realism was never a factor.

For that matter, a limited conflict between the US and Russians in the late eighties, on some unheard of Baltic islands, is no more realistic.

Sometimes, and this is very rare for me- an addon should be made for the "fun factor", as opposed to pure realism.

You know, if realism was all that important, an addon maker could simply make a MiG 1.42, and achieve the same thing.

An American B-2, F/A-22, UCAV, or perhaps an "Aurora" Recon asset would serve the same purpose for OPFOR players.

When i was lil and watched the movie i tweaked my model planes and glued different plane parts together to look like it, wich was not quiet good tho

But this plane really is hot.

Mach 2+ chopper that can fly right to edge of space, owned, operated, and maintained by two civilians? Sure, that's plenty realistic.

I saw this movie way back when it came out and I thought that plane was awesome.

I saw it again recently and i laughed my ass off (the movie really is pretty bad other than the plane).

I do hope someone makes it...it does look cool.

Well I was gettin ready to post one of my classic "Nahhh a plane like that wouldn't suit OFP" but then I saw the picture and just laughed. Why couldn't they come up with their own designation? The Foxhound is a decent as hell aircraft, just too decent for OFP lol....And yeah I'm talkin bout the real MIG-31 Foxhound, not that mickey mouse crap you see there

Basically when the book was written in the mid/late 70's the MiG31 designation wasnt taken and the actual aircraft hadnt even been made.

well the mig-25 foxbat existed around then which the mig-31 is basically a major upgrade of. I actully have a mig-35 for ofp but it needs textured and a cockpit

The Original Craig Thomas novel was in spired by the Defection of a Soviet Pilot in September 1976.

Anyway, taking a closer look to the Firefox, it's amazing to find nice similaritys with the Su-35 in terms of design...

Ohhhhh I remember the movie! Isn't it with Clint Eastwood? And it has rear a rear firing laser and uber "stealth" technology thingy?

On another note, the Foxhound can be used as an AWACS. Would be cool if this could somehow be represented if ever someone made an OFP addon of this great aircraft. And isn't it from a Foxhound that the world's highest ever ejection was made? Or was it a Foxbat? Hmmm.... *goes to look for article*
