T-72: Balkans on Fire

Recommended Posts

Has anybody played this game yet? Full version is released in Russia already (in russian of course). There's demo available here from 3D Gamers: http://www.3dgamers.com/news/more/1095861662/ 630 MB and in Russian language.

Developer page: http://t72.iddk.ru/en/news.html

Sure looks very good judging from the screenshots, hopefully it's also realistic  smile_o.gif

Somebody should definately publish it in the 'West' too!

Quote[/b] ]The game models the military career of a Russian volunteer tanker during the 1991-1995 civil war in Yougoslavia. On the Serbian side there were not only separate volunteer participants of the war, but whole subdivisions made up of the ex-USSR citizens, such as the Russian Volunteer Detachment (RDO-1, RDO-2, RDO-3), the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd Cossack sotnias. Reasoning from the specificities of the conflict we did not model large-scale tank battles. The game missions are based on the real application of tanks to local conflicts.

OFP is great for combined arms, but still, simulators are a different ballgame. OFP is quite bad in vehicular simulation and damage modelling, which of course what I'd like to see improved in OFP 2.

Well the screenshots are not toooo promising I must say.

you are a "miesepeter"

the graphics are really good on high detail, with vie distance 8 km +

and thats just a "very" early beta

gameplay is really good and realistic, you need to start engine, shift, turn the tracks with two keys ....

here you can download the english translation of the user manual for the beta, i've found on the internet last week

YOU will only be controlling tanks, but judging from the soldiers sittin on top of that T-55 (?) it looks like you'll have little soldiers running about too! smile_o.gif

Last tank sim I´ve played and still play is Steel Beasts.

I take anything that has an up to date gfx outfit like this one seems to have. I´m also pleased with the viewdistance. Looks pretty nice. Can you tell us something about urban areas ? Are there any ? How do they look ?

T-72: Balkans in fire?

Balkans: T-72 on fire is more like it. biggrin_o.gif

If the game gets fully translated to English I might give it a go. Don't feel like learning Russian right now. Pic looks nice though smile_o.gif

Tried the demo, i must say that i couldn´t understand much about it since everything was in russian language, it looked ok but that grass which disappears after 50 m really pisses me. Also it´s seems to require very powerful machine to run smoothly, althought it´s just a demo so let´s wait for full version. Still waiting for replacement to panzer elite.

Btw, there's two-part preview of the now-available Russian language version of T-72: BoF at SimHQ

Sounds very tempting indeed...T-72B, T-34/85 and T-55 are playable.

Those are nice two great previews....and the author makes a good point - notice how virtually all the realistic militay vehicle simulators are coming from Russia these days? Usually with fractions of the budget western companies put into their games?
