many addons & whats best graphics card?

Recommended Posts

When i had my geforce 2 mx card and played ofp it was very ugly but the game played with some lagg in big missions and it didn't crash but could sometimes freeze a few secs.

But now when i have a geforce 4 ti 4600 card it crashes every damn time i play during the smallest missions ever.

My current card is a geforce 4 ti 4600 and i have 512 mb in ram but i wish i had more but i need to sell my old card to afford a new card so i can't get any ram right now.

But wich card do you guys recomend if i want to play with addons and have many vehicles and soldiers and not crashing to desktop every time i play? crazy_o.gif

im getting very desperate so i need advice, and don't say reinstall computer , ofp drivers , direct x because i have everything up to date even f*** windows service packs but the engine still can't handle the pressure, when i run with bas mod folder and mapfact and the e & suchey marines and mapfact and the editor addons and some other objects packs it crashes to desktop during editor testing , mp games ... if i don't fix my crashing problems i think my clan leader will maybe fire my ass tounge_o.gif

it ain't fun to play a mission with 4 addons and the game crashes to desktop after 1-15 minutes.

It got a tv in and tv out built in to it aslo really cool biggrin_o.gif

but i got big problems with my ofp wich annoys the hell out of me and everyone i play with.. should i format the hardrive and not only reinstall windows this time?

i runed ofp a few mins ago and tried to play a fdf mod coop but it crashed to desktop after less than a minute, i was turnign around and it crashed to desktop..

got this from my flashpoint.rpt file

=====================================================================

== C:\Program files\Operation

can some one tell me whats wrong.... mad_o.gif

btw im running windows 2000 pro with sp 4 and i think the rest can be found in the dxdiag and rest of the stuff..

-nomap rock.gif . Maybe its a specific addon that causes this, maybe you should try other driver version, maybe you should check your agp aperture size in bios, maybe your game instalation is dying, maybe you could find a solution searching the forum... could be alot of stuff, sry sad_o.gif .

Hmm...1024x768x16 bit only? I used to play those settings when i had a GF2 and i only have ti4200 now tounge_o.gif .

I wondering have you tried to play with just standard BIS Addons in your addons folder? This would knock out if its an addon issue or not.And how does your Ti play with other games?

The GF4 Ti 4600 draws more power than an old MX, and produces more heat. If you have a weak or borderline power supply, the system may not be able to provide enough current on all the rails during peak power consumption. We're also in the middle of summer (unless you are on the southern hemisphere), so everything runs hotter now. Make sure all the fans are all turning.

i use a gf4ti4600, mated to a p4 2.2ghz(400mhz fsb). i wanna keep the same gfx card, and upgrade my processor to a p4 3.2(i think with the 1mb cache @800mhz fsb) will this make a boost? what about upgrading ram? i use pc266 ddr sdram(512mb) should i get better ram? or more of the same?

Please don't post your .rpt file and DXdiag info, it's messy and provides little information, compile a manual list of your system specs and drivers and post that.

I got a adm xp 2000 processor and 512 mb with ram but how do i check my power thingy? I will check the fans out when i get home, yeah my room tends to get very hot ( getting hot in here biggrin_o.gif ) because of my amd processor so i have had to remove one of the side plates so that the comp. gets more air directly.. tounge_o.gif so the problem maybe is only that it needs better power or cooling? Man i was so pissed i was almost going to sell my graphics card out, it works well in Doom 3 with low in settings and 800x and ofp runs pretty well. Well i don't wanna play ofp without addons, its like not having hot salsa sauce to your tacos wink_o.gif

so the problem maybe is only that it needs better power or cooling?

Possibly one, possibly both. Take a look at the back of your PC where the PSU is, there should be some kind of label that says what the wattage is, also if you have no software motherboard monitor installed try simply playing something for an hour or so and then reboot and check the temp in bios, better yet download something like motherboard monitor smile_o.gif

My PC at home is rock stable with the side panel off, put it on and it shuts down afer 10-60 mins, I bought a case fan but that made zero difference.

AC 230 V it says on the lable on the back of the computer

230 V only rock.gif , could be it, then again could not but with your system it seems insuficient to run your stuff properly rock.gif .

aw man i got to do something about the power supply then, i have to wait for money tha i don't know when i get them.

Im gonna buy power supply first and then test and if it works better i say it works but if it don't work i will post here or if it works i will also post here and tell everyone wink_o.gif

It's the wattage that's relevant smile_o.gif

right, i confused it with voltage crazy_o.gif , he should look for something like 300W or wathever wattage it is sad_o.gif .

300W+ is good and less is bad depending on the harware one has right?

Both GF4s and Athlons are known for high wattage. In some motherboards (the common ECS K7S5A for example) there is extremely high wattage concentrated on a single 3.3V or 5V rail to supply voltage regulators, CPU, chipset, memory and AGP. So hot environments in very most cases do not lead to hardware blackouts by overheat, but to undersupply on these vital rails from power supplies that are even almost unsufficient under normal conditions (as additional decrease in power supply efficiency occurs under heat).

A test could be clocking FSB from 133 to 100 MHz in BIOS. If you can adjust memory clockings independently (asynchroneously) from "FSB"-settings in BIOS, then also try that in another test run too,

OR significantly clock down the memory and core speed of the GF4 via driver settings (COOLBIT NV driver extension or free RIVATUNER software),

OR, if available, replace the 512MB memory stick with one that has less chips soldered onto it. If you have 2 x 256MB, try removing one of them.

Only change one thing at a time. If your computer runs stable with each of the above "lowered wattage" settings, then you can almost be sure it is the power supply.

If you suspect your PS, I'd suggest you should buy a brand one with at least 28A on the 3.3V / 5V rails each - and IMPORTANT! - have a look for maximum combined power on 3.3 plus 5V; should be much more than 170W, the more the better. Most stock PSs only provide around 130-150W combined 3.3V+5V (and sometimes even only under laboratory conditions sad_o.gif ). Note that the total power output is absolutely irrelevant unless you want to build servers or something really fancy. So a nominal 400 or more Watt PS is not necessarily what you look for, but prefer a good nominal 300-350W renowned brand PS (such as Enermax, Zalman,...; sure, they have their price though) with above specs over a no-name type. Otherwise you can really judge its qualities only by trial after purchase (some cheap ones will probably do, but there is too much trash around).

what do you think about this one?

http://www.ropla.com/product.asp?pid=355

a friend of mine says that my chassi maybe doesn't have enough with ventilation holes on the back but my other friends say that he is a retard.. should i buy a new chassi to or just the psu? really freaky about my chassi would be replaced because its a big server chassi that is like almost 1 m high or a bit less. tounge_o.gif

best graphics card for OFP - Nvidia based, had both ATI and Nvidia, and I used to crash back to windows frequently with my 9800 Pro, however, with Nvidia 6800 - not a single crash yet...

(I had some random shut downs, not just ofp but computer itself, but later discovered that weak power supply was causing the problem)

I have a Radeon 9800 and have never CTD'd once with Opf, you can't base your opinion solely on the graphics card, there are many other factors, motherboards for example can and often do cause more instability in Opf than the graphics card smile_o.gif

OFP is the best game ever, but on the hardware side it's the worst EVER.

I just tested on Leudersheide island with normal terrain details, viewdistance @ 1500 and my "normal" high cfg settings.

I tested the same situation, with 1600x1200 and then 800x600.

I got the same fps with both resolutions.

Weird if you ask me..... crazy_o.gif

System:

Shuttle SN45G - NForce2

Athlon XP 2500+@3000+(via multi)

2x 512MB DDR Samsung

GeForce FX 5900XT 128MB

80GB Seagate 7200

WinXP Pro

A performance patch for OFP would be very nice, while waiting until OFP2 release.

Guys this is unbelievable but i think i haev gotten the problem fixed, the graphic card wasn't 100% inserted because its so big so i didn't want to push it in to hard, a buddy of mine pushed in the slots correclty now and ofp hasn't crashed yet after 3 hours of playing in lan biggrin_o.gif but he detected another crisis on the horizon... crazy_o.gif some small stuff that i don't know their name in english but they look like batteries but in miniature size and are attached to the mother board have some corrosion on them.. the stuff inside is or have leaked out a bit but it isn't in fluid shape any more but he says that its very bad thing anyways.. wow_o.gif

thx for everyone's help, im thinking about a new mobo anyhow that doesn't look like a oncoming reactor breach..

Bad cap's. (Capacitors.) Long story, a shop in asia threw in the trash a design that didn't work. Competitor dumpster-dived and copied it as-is. That got stolen outright by a mole for yet another component shop and everyone started cranking out these faulty caps years ago. Mobo's started melting and leaking and all sorts of weird crap. It's been a huge mess, welcome to the club.

Anything made new in the last couple of years or less should be past that though... Some AMD boards don't use the P4 12v plug, I wonder if that hurts them by not using it. Anyway, Tom's (THG) had a nasty writeup a while back about PSU's, the no-labels and even many big-labels had serious as-advertised performance issues. Ambient heat can cause card creep too.

AHHHHHHH bad caps. i bought a no name computer a few years back, didnt know the name of it, and the motherboard had bad caps. they told me getting one without bad caps is like winning the lottery, and its actually quite common. apparently there is hardly any product quality control in the asian computer industry.....
