GoOB 0 Posted August 3, 2006 Maybe it was due to the extreme ammounts of noobs like me (although I think I was among the more "serious" ones), but I found it to be way too disorganised.... Any server tips for me?
Guest Ti0n3r Posted August 3, 2006 Ahh yesssss 4 days of RO

GoOB 0 Posted August 3, 2006 OK, after playing a few games on Odessa and Stalingrad I have to say Iv'e changed my mind! These servers had a nice teamwork going, with two main players directing the rest of the squad via the microphone. Another map I found to be nice was Snowy forest (a custom made one), with a nice balance of size... I find that the larger maps are boring and almost impossible to enjoy, unless your'e gunning a tank with a teamplay-oriented crew
figjam 0 Posted August 3, 2006 The public servers are touch and go. You can normally find a good one though with a few people leading the the team. A good crew that communicates in a tank is great fun. There are more specialised realism clans, but I haven't joined one yet so I can't comment on their closed servers. In all, RO is a great game. I'll have to jump in soon to help out the new guys with how to call in arty and how to use tanks right
Nathan Bedford Forrest 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I tend to play on the FK #1 Infantry Only server. There are a decent group of 'regulars' who'll readily use voice. Although you'll find if one guy starts being vocal, there will be other guys with mics speaking up as well.
D.murphy man 0 Posted August 4, 2006 im enjoying it so far, although i havnt seen much team work iv been having fun just running aimlessly around helping out random team members and bursting into rooms firing a sub machinegun and mowing down half a squad of germans (ok that only happend once but was great fun) I love the way the tanks handel as well, very different and original to the usuall mouse steering we see in so many games (OFP included). Its a lot more of a challange to hit any thing in a tank which is good. I also love the pace and flow of the game, which really reminded me of a slightly faster OFP which is great! and grenades are actully usefull unlike most FPS's. Ill most properly buy this game once the free trail is over
ziiip 1 Posted August 5, 2006 I've downloaded it, played it and liked it. Altough I pick servers randomly, and go kill on my own. I think I'm an average player, my k/d is about equal. Sometimes I kill ppl at about 50 meters with 1 shot, sometimes I can't hit someone 3 meters away from me. The close combat can be real awkward if the ppl are having rifles. Everyone missing all shots until finally someone hits with his..like 5th shot. Firing with machine guns are real fun, finally a game in which machine guns are accurate like in RL! The fact that I have to deploy the MG is really nice, though it was a problem for me that I can only reload while deployed. The other thing I really love is the tank battles. Usually I go alone, stop at a good spot and hope in the gunning seat. Mostly 1 hit is enough, but if unlucky it can take even 5 shots to take out a tank(yes, I know there are different type of tank out there :P). Reload time is very important, once I was hit first, but shot back fast, and I was still able to shoot the second shot sooner than the hostile, so I destroyed them. It's a bit annoying that I can't use the mouse to move the cannon, though that's only a problem when trying to kill infantry. Well...that's all for now. Don't flame me if I wrote something bull****, I'm just boy telling some experience. The game is awesome, go ahead and play it!

Daniel 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Yeah, sometimes it seems if you are both at the right angles you can chuck shells at each other all day.
GoOB 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Hehe - Sitting in a tank with a poor driver is among the most frustrating things I have ever experienced in a game... On the other hand, watching the poor tankdrivers of the enemy roll into your gunsights and be blown off the map is extremly rewarding I'm still more in love with the infantrymaps though, Odessa and Stalingrad Kessel ruling supreme... I once saw an Odessa_tank, is that one any good? Sounds like an interesting thing to throw a tank or two onto that map

Sounds like an interesting thing to throw a tank or two onto that map I picture somebody driving one of the BA64s up that ramp made of rubble into the second floor of the apartments Sounds intresting though, the other day I saw Basovka_Tank, I bet that one would be cool too. Daniel 0 Posted August 5, 2006 That's the one. Only played it from the Russian perspective so far, it's cool running up and diving into the trenches, then trying to fit through all the smoke and tracers. The ground textures are pretty damn cool too.
