philcommando 0 Posted July 3, 2004 I am honoured anyone would consider me to be a member of a mod but i am a kinda jack of all trades and master of none! I wish u folks the best and feel free to modify my addons to suit ur needs if required. Although all my addons are self created in O2 and not imported from elsewhere ( u can tell from the poor quality of it ), i have no intention of making a fuss if anyone uses or modify it. As for infringement of copyrights, i doubt if lucasfilms or anyone can sue so as long as u dont import or create exact replica from other's copyrighted works. And i doubt if lucasfilms will sue anyone for using starwars name, cos if they do, the dearly departed Reagan will be the first man they would sue for his overpriced Starwars plan to protect US, let alone sue kids with only school allowance money for unofficial BIS addons or sue BIS who so far has tied their hands tightly in terms of helping the addon community. Technically, addons here would fall under the category of 'Fair Usuage' terms of copyright law - meaning it permits the use of pieces of a copyright work for the sake of education, scholarly analysis or criticism. The usage must be entirely non-commercial. I sure dont see anyone paying for addons here. I cant say much for those that import models from other games in its entirety, but if it's self created, it by itself is an original work and no one can lay claim to it other than the author himself. Another term of the copyright law is 'The usage must not damage the commericial interests of the copyright holder.' Now compare other games and free addons created here - i doubt if anyone would give up playing HALO or any addon maker can create the HALo universe in ofp itself. Its more an oddity than the norm. Heck! perhaps the addonmaker should claim royalties from Halo for promoting their games here!!! Its good to live by the law...but never allow the big boys to bully u if u are not profiting anything out of your efforts to bring joy and fun to others. Stand up for ur rights!!!!
