ran 0 Posted June 22, 2004 Currently, I'm thinking about Iraq war was right and France could of beat Germany during BOF.... the second one would be more paying I think (it could get you a better grade since it would involve a bit more resaerch but is still vast enough to be treated correctly, not too vast to be treated completely and would trigger a bit less of a monster debate than the Iraq war. Plus, I got something good for attention material dealing with the BOF.... The decision has been made....BOF it is..... Now I need some links for sources (credible)...anybody can help? I went on-line for this and had a conversation with a Frenchman who did peacekeeping in Africa. He suggested that I should do it on how the military leaders and politicians caused France to fell to Germany. The reason was that French military has gotten a bad rep. for been considered cheese-eating surrendering monkeys. And so, I decided to do it for him.  The year is 1940, and Paris is taking in less than a month by the Germans. How did this happen? Orienting Material: There is a common misconception that the individual soldiers of the French military caused the French republic to fall into Germany’s occupation. (From my knowledge…) II. Central Idea I hope to change people’s minds on this by end of this speech that it was the inept military leaders and politicians not the soldiers. III. Body A. Firstly, the politicians sat on their thumbs and acted after it was too late. 1. The horrors of World War I infect the government…. 2. Failed containment of Hitler…. a. reoccupation of the Rhine…. b. Sudetanland….. (With the incompetent politicians in power to deal with rising threat of Hitler, the military commanders were no better than a 1 year old child in charge of a nation’s defense) B. The higher-ups of the military was in control of Europe’s largest army but they failed in many ways that caused one of the most embarrassing losses in modern history. 1. Confidence a. Schlieffen Plan…… b. In reality, Manstein plan was used by the Germans….. 2. Doctrine of the time a. armor…. (1.) radios…. (2.) infantry support…. b. Methodical Battle plan…. 3. The Maginot line a. information about it…. (1.) location…. (2.) what was it supposedly been used for…. (3.) its weakness….. (The French commanders were stuck in the belief of World War I warfare. However, the Germans used new tactics that were superior to that. The French tried to fix the problems (i.e. putting Weygand in charge) but it was too late.) In conclusion, the inept politicians and commanders allowed Germany to become a threat and fall to them. The French had superior equipment and manpower but the commanders did not have the will or were too shocked by the invasion. However, there were generals that actually took the charge to the Germans (i.e. De Gaulle) but there were not many. Furthermore, after France fell, the formation of Free French by French soldiers and brave commanders prove that all French were not “surrendering monkeysâ€.
