I can't wait for my next visit to Praha in July/August - it's a beautifull city! And yeah, those 'plattenbauten' can be found all over the former eastern block - and in most bigger west european cities suburbs. In in the former kommunist east of Germany they even build a whole city in that manner:

EiZei 0 Posted June 12, 2004 Having lived in those things (slightly better and smaller than in ex-eastern bloc though) the worst thing was overly zealous (mostly retired) neighbours complaining just about everything. Otherwise they are not so bad when you get used to it and stairs make great exercise.
GoOB 0 Posted June 12, 2004 Here in Sweden these "concrete slabs" are often covered with metal plates (is it metal plates?) in various colours. Blue is really popular, especially around the area I live. And those that aren't covered like that are usually painted over, it's been quite a while since I saw any real grey concrete slab-buildings.
