aviel 0 Posted May 31, 2004 hey guys! i think i founded the CURE for the crasing!! it is a lot of work, but thats the only way. first. go to youre addon folder. cut it. and past it in my documents. second thing, if you have costume sounds. put it far away from the operation flashpoint dir. now, uninstall flashpoint, (all of it.). and start reinstalling. and re downloading the patches. and yes i know. its TONS of work. but i fixed it, and opf runs well on my machine now without crashing. it took me b.t.w one hour, but it was worth the troubble, after you finished installing the game patches and stuff. go to my documents and put ALL of the addons in the new addons folder at the opf dir. thats it guys! if someone has a better idia, i will be happy to hear him, (like rest of the opf community,) to make opf a better place to play in :P. BraTTy 0 Posted June 1, 2004 Just a suggestion tho: Check the quality of your cd's before you do anything drastic, because they may have developed new scratches since last time And a good suggestion I read a bit ago to maybe, rename your ofp directory first (save a backup or such)(is that what you meant by cut and paste?) Just that you might encounter a failed reinstall and a crashing OFP is better than no OFP And you forgot a very imortant detail that when you uninstall OFP (or delete like I do) to also delete the registry keys too as they can become corrupt and may be the reason for crashing to begin with And of course backup your registry first just my $0.
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 1, 2004 Besides the Addons directory, you should save the OFP\Users\MySpiffyUserName directory as well, since it contains your key mappings, custom sounds, custom face, saved missions etc.
ozanzac 0 Posted June 1, 2004 I don't think it's a cure to crashing. But it will help with smoother gameplay. But, it's not very convienient to do that often. Just about everytime you add a new addon to your existing collection, you will experience a slight degradation in performance. If you can install everything in one hit. (Game, patches, addons, missions, mods e.t.c.) You will of course, have smoother gameplay. As the files are not 'spreadout' on the harddrive. However, how often you want to do that (the dance) depends on your motivation. Most people lack it to the extent of more than once or twice a year.... benu 1 Posted June 1, 2004 Well, i never needed to reinstall ofp (or other games btw). Even after a windows reinstall it is usually enough to reimport the registry keys one time from the backups i made before or start the game one time and reenter the cd key. When you backup some files, reinstall and put the backups back you are not really changing anything, except in the folders you didn't back up. As the addons folder isn't used in resistance anyway i don't see why i should back it up at all. You could just delete it. Better would be to KNOW what you install and where in terms of inofficial files and remove those to a temporary folder when you get problems. And export your registry keys for ofp. I install EVERYTHING into modfolders, so the only thing i need to worry about would be my registry keys, my users folder and my flashpoint.cfg. And those can be backed up easily (and are btw). bn880 5 Posted June 1, 2004 I don't know what you people are talking about! Go delete your temp files, context file, flashpoint.rpt and keep your addon folders organized, you're done. You can even load default settings. I have not re-installed OFP since I installed it when it came out... and i do not crash unless I have an addon conflict. I used to crash, but that was due to bad hardware or drivers. Chop chop.

I migrated from Windows 2000 to XP during that time and applied a ton of updates to the game (official updates, betas, OFP:R, more betas etc.), and it still works without a hitch.
