AtStWalker 0 Posted May 28, 2004 and now some info about the tanks.. Sherman B.A.R.V. Quote[/b] ]http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/vehicles/trrv/vehbeach.htm The REME Experimental Beach Recovery Section, working with the ME Directorate of the War Office, developed the design. The design attached a boat shaped superstructure to the top of a turretless Sherman, enabling it to wade in over nine feet of water. It was not practical to fit a winch in view of the difficulty in sealing the winch cable aperture, so the ARV operated in deep water with one member of the crew equipped for shallow water diving. Drowned vehicles were hooked up and towed ashore. By D Day in June 1944 about sixty Sherman M4 A2s had been converted to BARVs. The Ministry of Supply could not give the project full backing due to heavy commitments elsewhere. Therefore, several REME tradesmen were lent to the civilian contractors to speed up construction of the BARV. The Sherman BARVs together with wading tractors and normal wheeled recovery vehicles equipped REME beach recovery sections, which were among the first troops to land on D Day. The BARVs were invaluable and found an additional role in pushing stranded landing craft back into deep water. The Sherman BARV continued in use for training purposes long after World War 2 until replaced in the 1960s by a Centurion BARV some of which remain in service in 1996. AtStWalker 0 Posted May 28, 2004 Sherman Calliope (sixteen 4.5 inch rockets) Quote[/b] ]http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Cavern/7758/sherman.html To provide a high density of fire ahead of the assault troop, US Ordnance developed the T34 tank mounted rocket launcher. Weighing 1840 pounds, the T34 carried 60 4.5 inch rockets in 90 inch long plastic tube. Mated to the Sherman chassis, they were nicknamed the Calliope due to the awesome sight they produce during firing. The Calliopes first saw action during Operation Cobra, where 3 of them fired the opening barrage on the German positions near Saint Lo.

cbfasi 4 Posted May 28, 2004 Looking good there. How about a few other variants? US Kit Tank Recovery Vehicle M32 M4 Dozer (M4+D8 dozer) British Kit Kangeroo Crab Mk 2 Sherman DD (be very nice if screens collapse!!!) These last 2 really essential if your covering Hobarts best.. Another idea would be to do the 'other' funnies of Hobarts, the Churchill variants....

billybob2002 0 Posted June 3, 2004 Now I'm confused.... http://web.inter.nl.net/users/spoelstra/g104/yu.htm Quote[/b] ]In 1970 the film "Kelly's Heroes" was shot in Yugoslavia. Besides other Shermans and T34s (convincingly dressed up as Tiger tanks) several M4A3(75)W Shermans retrofitted with 76 mm guns were used in the making of this film. Anyway, the pack pics look pretty good...
