This isn't what this topic was for.

I didn't make this thread for an excuse to scream at the mods.

Frankly, I'll immediately close this topic and keep all news information private if this gets out of hand again.

Matty R, don't post in this topic. Consider that a request.

The heli is USMC mod material. The Destroyer is ours.

[ZG]BUZZARD: I think you should go back and read my post. I realized that it wasn't a Cruiser, but a DDG, that's why I used italics, M'kay? What the pic looked like was a lengthend, beefier version of the Burke, with a cruisers weapons fit. Basically, a Tico-sized Burke. That's what I meant by "this is what we really needed- an Arleigh Burke cruiser!" I meant in real life. The DDG-51 superstructure design is somewhat more advanced than the CG-47's. But of course, the Tico's are somewhat better armed, being fully double-ended with two full Mk41 complexes, and two Mk45's, not just one and a half plus one gun.

So I think we can stop this quibbling, now. 'kay? wink_o.gif

Flight IIA was Post-USS Cole, and includes crew mounted point defense (Mk19s, M2s), as well as what you mentioned.

Accepted. Helm, make your course 045 degrees, flank speed. Gentlemen, it is my intention to sail this ship into harms way.

God save this crew, and the countless souls we'll be sending to an early grave!

heh i've been on the USS Gettysburg.... guided missle cruiser with VLS, helipad and all... All as a NJROTC cadet in high school on a "field trip at sea" I still roughly remember the interior of the ship and the area deemed "officer's country" which is off limits to unauthorized enlisted men if you guys ever decide to make a cruiser... I'm here and I still remember most of the interior layout and design / quarters, also a slight note... Most interiors of NAVY ships are almost identical in design becasue of the surviveability the ship has to undergo. smile_o.gif

Heh. Overstocked on white paint, flimsy aluminium sheet metal, and non-skid.

heh, at least they aren't figuring out ways to make the ultimate " virtural" soldier by strapping a PC to his back and connecting it to his gun and then telling him to take humps through swamps. biggrin_o.gif

I'll take two, with extra ammo! And an OCSW fo' shizzle!

Trust me, the USN has had it's fair share of high-tech boondoggles. The A-12 Avenger for instance. And let's not forget the Arsenal Ship. Or the need to replace every plane on the carrier with an F/A-18.... biggrin_o.gif

And then replacing every last US vessel with this new spangled CV(X) and the new DD(X). Sure, I'd love for Bath to get the DDX contract, and hell I'd love that damn ship to be out there, but replacing all these Arleighs we're building right NOW...

I dont know they they'll be replaced, at least in the near term. Augmented perhaps. They're still building Burkes, and Nimitz class CVN's.

Thanks, that gets taken down on the 1st though. Been almost a month :P

The DD(X) is slated for 2015, and it's not an upgrade, it's a full out unit replacement. Sure they'll be in service until 2035 or so, but we just GOT this DDG, can't we keep it a new design for a while?

I guess it will be similar to how we felt 10 15 years ago when the Burkes began to replace the Spruance DDG's. Even though the Spruance was the most effective DDG of it's time, the Burke was a real leap ahead.

One must wonder how much of a leap the new DD will be.
