johnnylump 0 Posted May 13, 2004 You set Hellfish straight Tex. (Dallas native here) 'Cause the truth is that the only country that ever got truly whupped by Mexico was France. That's what Cinco de Mayo celebrates. On topic -- and live from the front -- I now live in Northern Virginia in DC suburbs and have yet to see a cicada. red oct 2 Posted May 14, 2004 @ May 13 2004,23:01)]I forgot to mention that they're crunchy. And the rest of you are bunch of pansies- these guys are completely harmless and pretty damn fascinating. They can be a little loud, but what the hell- they only come around now and then. I for one welcome our new cicada overlords: we could then force europe to pay us a million euro's for 1 cicada killer wasp (the cicada's natural preditor) to remove all the noisy cicada.... or just do nothing and wait for the EU government collapse and have a new puppet government to do are every bidding in place overnight
brgnorway 0 Posted May 14, 2004 I'm a real sissy when it comes to creeps and bugs. I couldn't live in a country with more venomous snakes than the adder we have here in Norway (Vipera berus) and even that one scares the living daylights out of me. There's quite a lot of them where I live too

red oct 2 Posted May 14, 2004 i'd gladly take some little ankle bitter over a Presa Canario or a Rotryler. never a time where you don't hear of a horror story of some poor kid or even a unwary adult getting mauled by one of those animals. what some people see in those damn dogs i don't know. I couldn't agree more as I'm sick and tired of body builder look and large dogs like amstaff and rotweilers. Fucking idiots have their dogs unleashed and can't control them at all! red oct 2 Posted May 14, 2004 yep, theres some trailer park trash living down my street that does that crap of putting one of those 200 pound monsters outside and tieing them to some brittle fence post and no surprise they get free. if i saw one of those things trotting around my yard, i wouldn't hesitate to shoot the damn thing. if somebody wants a big dog, get a Irish Wolf Hound. i had 4 of them and they are just very gentle and pretty dogs. IceFire 0 Posted May 14, 2004 I live in Maryland and I don't think I've ever seen any cicadas. Although I think they are the same thing as LOCUSTS. I remember seeing locusts. And Red Oct and Bnorgway, what a terrible attitude you have toward dogs. Rottwielers are very nice loving dogs. You just have alot of morons who want to have a "mean" dog and beat them to make them tough. That's why you have all these maulings. Both German Shepards and Rottweilers are good, stable breeds of dogs. But I have seen idiots saying they want mean dogs, and slap them around all the time. Don't blame the dog, blame the owner. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 14, 2004 No, dammit, they aren't locusts. People always call them locusts, because people are idiots. Let's do a side-by-side comparison: Locust. Cicada.

red oct 2 Posted May 14, 2004 somebodies being a little testy about their precious little bug are we going to start a cicada worshiping cult where non-believers will be drivin into insanty by being locked in a room full of noisy cicada's? hmmmmm... i could be on to something there. possible money scam maybe? better write that down somewhere. brgnorway 0 Posted May 14, 2004 Quote[/b] ]And Red Oct and Bnorgway, what a terrible attitude you have toward dogs. Rottwielers are very nice loving dogs. No Icefire - quite the contrary. I love dogs and have one myself. I have - and in my family we've always had terriers which by the way are demanding dogs to handle if you don't know how to do it propperly! But you are right about the morons - they always go for large muscular dogs which in the wrong hands can be a catastrophic failiure. The "moron-category" does not only include crackheads and bodybuilders wannabe tough guys, but also "ordinary" families who buy a "pet" for their children. I've seen so many idiots whom shouldn't have dogs at all - poodle or rotweiler! They don't even have to slap their dogs around. It's more than sufficient to make your dog dangerous as long as you don't make sure the dog is socialised with both humans and other animals the right way. A dominant large dog which you cannot control is just as dangerous as the "slapped around" one. Every now and then I can't help myself from thinking about how all the idiot dog owners treat their children when they care so little about their dogs. But since this thread is about cicadas I suggest the average crackhead, bodybuilder and family man buy cicadas for their children and themselves
