Doh! they got me again...

Recommended Posts

I know now, what my problem is - I have problems localizing the enemies. I always run, then get down and scanned the horizon with the binoculars - nothing. Then ran about 20m and suddenly *bang* three times - dead...

and if I managed to get on the ground in time, then it was even harder to find the enemy. The mostly get me, before I get them...

My OFP installation is doing well, everything fine, Graphics etc.

I'm playing with Resolution 1024x768, Viewing range=1500, Visibility=Max, Renders=Max, Detail=Norm...

It seems, that I see the enemies within 100m, but they see me within 200m.

Does anyone have a trick to find enemies faster?

How can I train my skills the most effective way? I think, when I start now playing in Multiplayer Games, it would be the same as with Counterstrike, where I only was "Hackfleisch" and easy frags for the others (being a noob is hard sad_o.gif )

And stop laughing - that's not funny... wink_o.gif

Just try playing a lot more carefull. Remember that there's actually no such thing as 'camping' in OFP. The key to survival is playing slow and safe, Rambo-style is no option wink_o.gif. Besides that, coordination among your team member is very important to stand efficient against the enemy. When teamleader, carefully think of your tactics, formation and position. If not, try following your leader as much as possible.

If you search you'll find plenty of threads giving tips on how to play when you're new, just remember to search from the beginning.

It's not easy to be sure. The key to survival in Flashpoint is to see the enemy before he sees you. I was just playing a mission where my squad was charged with searching for stragglers in a wide open AO between two forests. Very dangerous work but it has to be done. The trick was to recon the area VERY carefully before making your move. The moment I stopped being careful and started to get cocky we took MG fire in the open and lost 3 men. Whereas later on we got into a firefight with 2 tank crew men, who I'd spotted long before, and won w/ only 1 wounded.

Recon carefully, advance from cover to cover, don't stay in the open, etc. I personally am a fan of the 3 second rule. Run for 3 seconds then hide behind cover. Get up, run again, cover, and repeat.

Hi all

The fine art of crawling

You have to learn to crawl before you run in OFP.

Whenever you are in contact it is on yer belly.

If you shoot something move from that spot or lie doggo for a while.

If you know the direction of the enemy then always face toward them. This presents the smallest target to the enemy. If they are looking toward you after a shot at their group crawl slowly backwards away from them so you can shoot if they react and so you present minimum aspect to them.

PLAN YOUR ROUTE

Ten minutes looking at the map before engagement is 10 minutes well spent. Plan ingress route and plan an egress route and Emergency Raly Roint ERP. Take time to decide where you are going and how your going to get there, and most importantly how you are going to get out of it if it turns sour. Use the map.

Movement to contact

Fast movement attracts attention. Nice and slow is usualy the best but there are exceptions. Always use cover (ridges dips) if at all possible. Use concealment forests, trees and bushes if there is no cover. Never run long distances in the open. Never stand in the open. Never reload in anwhere but cover or if you absolutley have to in concealment.

Contact

When in assault keep in formation line or v in assault. Dips in the ground and ridge lines provide cover and concealment the best places. Bushes only provide concealment but you will spend 90% of your time hiding in the bushes while playing OFP.

Look see, hide, move, hide, look shoot, MOVE! works well if your slow.

Look see shoot, MOVE! hide works well if your fast.

Try and take out the enemy at long range 200m or greater. Practice till one shot one kill is second nature. But to begin with you will probably have to use burst. Problem with burst is it reveals your position quicker.

Infantry Target precedence

Officers

Special Ops

Snipers

Machine Gunners

Grenadiers

Then Soldiers and Rocket Launchers and Medics

Dont be disheartened

We all died a lot to get and learn this information biggrin_o.gif

If you make make the mission yourself, always have choppers somewhere on the map that you can call in using the helo domove getpos player. This way when things get too hectic you can call in the air support, works with planes on everon too.

Also if possible get an aircraft with a napalm option, that way you can wipe out most of the enemy in a few minutes. Plus it looks cool.

walker, you sound just like an fmfm 6-5 "fleet marine force manual". These are all good tactics, also remember fire and manuever as well as fire and movement. Have your buddy lay down suppresing fire while you move, and then fire while he moves. key to remember "Fire without movement is a waste of ammo, movement without fire is suicide"

Granted, this doesn't work so well with AI as your buddies, its more of a mp thing. However in solo play, you can get the bad guys to hit the deck by firing a couple shots, then you have a little time to make a run for it. biggrin_o.gif

A few more options:

- Play with AI - your squad reports contacts and they have the same spotting abilities as the enemy wink_o.gif

- play in Cadet-mode to have contacts marked on the map

- play as a grunt with some superiors in your squad - they will assign you a target - the target markers often helps to see the enemy a bit better wink_o.gif (and this might help you seeing what to look for)

- play some Coop with skilled players and observe their play

use the advance command for one unit... he'll take point and move ahead - when he gets taken down, your other men with quickly spot the unit and you can either order them to take him out or you can

Rocket launchers are also important, when you have armored support or vehicle's, like in the Battlefield mission.

It also depends on the situation. In a night mission, it's better to take out Spec Ops and Crews first, because of their NVGoggles. Your man can pick up the NVG of the dead Spec Op/Crew.

A few tips:

- Don't use RPGs/LAWs against enemy Inf or trucks, especially when you're a beginner. You can take jeeps/trucks out with your rifle. Just aim at the driver.

- Send some of your men to some bushes to cover you.

- When you're advanced, let half of your sqaud stop to cover you, while you and the other half of the squad are advancing.

- Don't spare ammo, unless you're a sniper or spec op. You can take ammo from your dead mates or rifles from dead Russians.

- Don't get in any CQB situation, unless you have an automatic rifle.

Well, looking a map and studying the terrain before proceeding will help when you have to flank the enemy. Also try to get close to the enemies since they are much less effective at engaging at distances of 50m or less using the trees and bushes as cover. If you have problems with seeing the enemy at all, always bring a pair of binoculars or if you have the choice, a scoped rifle.
