Hans_Lenzer 0 Posted March 5, 2004 Salute All! Can I use a joystick to fly a chopper? I tried and I could not get it to work. I opened 'Controls' and 'enabled joystick' but it still did not work. Is there a certain kind of joystick that will work with OPF? I have a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick. It is the basic model without a 'hat' switch button. Because of this, I can not finnish the OPF Red Hammer Campaign Mission: Return Chopper. My main trouble is aiming to fire the rockets and cannons.

theavonlady 1 Posted March 7, 2004 Because of this, I can not finnish the OPF Red Hammer Try using the keyboard. If you get fed up, use the ENDMISSION cheat to move on to the next mission (search The FAQ for "endmission" for further information).

noundo 0 Posted March 8, 2004 To answer your question: Yes you should be able to use a joystick with OFP. Have you made sure the J-stick was configured properly in Windows?
EiZei 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Personally I found easier to dodge AA-fire and fire at targets accurately with a mouse rather than with the joystick.
bonko the sane 1 Posted March 9, 2004 helis are much more agile when u fly them with joystick (i.e: they turn\spin much faster) ; the only catch is the colective, as in ofp the slider (throttle) for helis functions in reverse (cant find the words). so u need to really pay attention to that This said i fly planes on stick and helis on keyboard
freddern 0 Posted March 9, 2004 I just began flying rotorbladed arcrafts (choppers) with joystick in ofp and I found it quite amusing and it brought a new realism to the game i think. Flying airplanes wasn't that fun, but surely just because it felt very different from flying with a mouse.
GabKa73 0 Posted May 22, 2004 Using a joystick for flying (choppers & planes) is pure fun in OFP. Check the joystick control panel in Windows if the stick works and - important - unplug all other connected controllers. THEN start OFP and enable joystick in options menu.
