Thanks for the mission update. smile_o.gif

As far as the MH-47 being unrepairable, I just meant that I couldn't bring a repair truck to it, and it was too damaged from the start to move it near a repair truck. Sounds like it's good to go now. biggrin_o.gif

Well then, it IS unrepairable because of an oversight in one of the triggers. Try it. smile_o.gif

I'll upload a new version tonight.

Anyone interested in the non-PBO'ed mission? I must warn you: it's messy...

EDIT:

New versions in first post.

This mission is crying out for a nam version using the sebnam pack.

A version on Meekong Delta would be really really cool, test your landing skills to the max in the jungle!

Indeed. A Nam choplifter would be most welcome. "ChickenLifter"?

I have seen the problem with the error on the Getin event, but I can't find what it is. sad_o.gif

Event handler save-game bug is repaired in OFP v.1.94beta. So there can be problem with resumed (loaded) games in lesser versions.

Has anyone found a way round the bug where u use the BAS Blackhawk and soldiers dont get into it when u land beside them?

Use the UH60 (the one with the MG), not the AH60 (the one with so many weapons that it can't hold any men)...

Matthijs Did you make this? Who ever did is the man.

I wanted to make a mission like this... or that other game vaguely similar to it in terms of rescuing prisoners; for the NES called Jackal.

This is great. It's a keeper.

Tried the BAS version.

Took the DAP out due west. Killed 3 BMPs, saw the red smoke, landed and watched the soldiers stand outside the DAP but they would not board. I even tried going outside and opening the door for them, like any polite lady would do. Didn't help.

Please check.

edit: retried, popped green smoke this time. Same problem.

BAS Dap version of the H-60 does not have cargo proxies there are 2 proxies gunner and pilot wink_o.gif

Choose another chopper wink_o.gif

Notice how there's no AH64/AH1 in this BAS mission?

That's why the AH60 still serves a purpose.

Maybe it's just a question of whether the DAP should start off parked on the side, rather than at the starting helipad.

A note about this addon's limitation is in order in the mission briefing's NOTES section.

I somehow like the DAP to be the 1st chopper to fly. It's very handy for cleaning up the area around the first few groups. Then I land and swap choppers.

Or you could get your co-pilot to fly it and scort you while you board a transport chopper.

The littlebitd is also great for quick hit-and-run missions. Quite a punch for such a small thing! smile_o.gif

Very good mission!

I finished it (BAS version) few minutes ago. It took me about 3 or 4 hours to finish but that's the type of missions I like. The only thing I was missing is some kind of element of surprise. Like, one squad of the soldiers that had to be saved would be somehow captured and you had to liberate them "on foot". Also I fould it a little bit too easy. Some more Shilkas or enemy choppers could spice the mission up. But it was definitely fun!

PS. BTW very good soundtrack when landing back at base!

Here's my take on this mission.

WARNING: CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM AHEAD!

I find the mission very repetetive and unrealistic. Going back and forth and flip flopping between attack and transport helis to take out enemy units and 4 hour resupply intervals seems terribly unrealistic. And it's just the same thing over and over.

This problem would be partially resolved had the BAS DAP contained the needed cargo proxy. Then one chopper could be used to clear an area before picking up the troops. (Is there a similiarly dual-use chopper out there?)

But I see great potential. This needs to be a two-chopper mission. Because of OFP's AI constraints, the player should be in command of an missile armed attack chopper, which the player pilots, as well as commanding a transport Chinook, piloted by AI.

It would be the player's responsibility to clear the area, order in the Chinook for evac and cover the area during evac and return to base.

To make the mission a bit tougher, the moment a smoke grenade goes off, enemy untis in the vicinity should start heading for that point. Besides armor units, ground enemy units should be added to do the same - hunt down the NATO units signalling evac.

As for which choppers to use, Either the BAS DAP and another Blackhawk or Chinook. Or, in order to retain the BMPs attacking helicopters, use the BIS helis in the FDF mod. Or use a Russian Armor addon that targets helis.

I agree with the suggestion that ground units should be added. As well as some Shilkas. And I agree that it should be possible to let the AI use another chopper.

But I don't agree that it is unrealistic when you get the feeling it's too repetitive. IRL SAR missions ARE repetitive. They are always like Search and rescue, search and rescue, search and rescue.....that's it!

Let me clarify that what really makes it repetitive is taking an attack chopper, going in to clear out the EZ, going back to take a transport helo and then coming back to pick up the evacuees.

I have no problem on its own with the number of evac sites in the mission.

My suggestion is for one trip in per EZ. There's a transport and a player flown armed escort. Seems much more realistic to me.

Also, rearming a chopper doesn't take 4 hours IRL, does it? rock.gif

I would also replace the SU25 (is there more than 1?) with Hinds

The mission was not made with the BAS choppers in mind in the first place. Also, it was not made to be realistic, it was made to represent the original Choplifter. (That's also why it's very repetetive)

The 4 hours time-skip has been put in to allow for believable weather and daytime changes.

To be honest, if I wanted to make a realistic version, the mission would have been very different from what it is now. It would have involved only a few groups, maybe one or two downed pilots, a whole team of lifters escorted by gunships, a CSAR ground team, enemy infantry, more variety in enemy vehicles, more AAA and SAMs, enemy infantry trying to fool you by poppig smoke (so YOU would have to name the color of smoke you are seeing, to verify validity), and indeed a few plot twists.

Choplifter was nice as a small "fun" tryout of an idea, but was never meant as a serious and realistic mission. I'm currently off doing other things, and I have no plans to expand on the current Choplifter missions. But if anyone wants to improve on the current version(s), go ahead and do so. You can download the un-PBO'ed version from the first post in this thread. Just don't trip over all the rubble in the scripts.
