Idf soldiers & zelda apc

Recommended Posts

Sorry it's a bit late, but Vipersheart worked really hard to get this little demo out.

Sadly it's gone under the radar as OFP.info hasn't posted any info about these addons even though their graciously hosting them.    So I decided to make a post here.

The IDF soldiers are just one group of many that our mod team is working on.  Also the JAM weapons that you see are just temporary as Vipersheart has made a wonderful weapons pack for these soldiers.  But there are still a few bugs in the weapons pack so he opted not to use them in this beta release.  Basically this release was just to give the community something to play with until we can get a bigger demo pack together.  Right now most of the work that needs to be done is just in finishing up our Merkava MBT, and our Egyptian Forces.

In addition to the basic JAM compatible IDF troops, we also released our Zelda APC.

Big up to Vixer for doing most of the work on it.

Unfortunately Vipersheart forgot to include the Readme file but below is a copy of it:

**************

Hello everyone.  Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> here.  I hope all of you in the OFP community will enjoy this Zelda APC addon.  It is the product of many many hours of long work by the members of the LostBrothers team.  This APC differs from the regular M113 in that it has a extra armor panels on the front and sides in order to protect it from RPG attacks.  In the game it is able to withstand one to two RPG hits before being destroyed.  Heavy AT weapons and heavy cannons generally take it out with one hit.

***************

Known Bugs:

1. Jittery getting inside Zelda.

2. Gunner can't be shot unless driver is turned out (I believe that's a game engine bug).

Please let us know either on our forum, or through my email addy below if you find any bugs.  Thx.

Special thanks to Marfy for some of the textures.

My apologies if I left anyone else out, but if I did, big up to you guys as well.  smile_o.gif

From: http://www.israeli-weapons.com/weapons....da.html

"The "Zelda" APC is an upgraded M113 APC with armor addition on both sides and front which provide protection against the anti-tank RPG rockets. The "Zelda" APC has additional protection against land mines. This vehicle is the product of Israel’s long experience in armored warfare."

Hope you guys like these addons.  You can look forward to MUCH improved versions of the infantry with new weapons, and a wider range of units including special operations units and paratroopers along with an excellent humvee pack and plenty of infantry, tanks and other vehicles from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria as well as Palistinian forces.

Any mirrors would be appreciated as OFP.info is often difficult to download from due to the heavy volume of downloads from that site.   Thx!

Is there going to be a website for this mod?

That forum looks unused and there hasnt been much in the way of screens or anything for this up until this mini demo.

First of all, Happy New Year and Thanks a lot

Is the real Zelda supposed to keep its amphibious mouvement while wearing its cool armor ?

Yours still can float...  wow_o.gif

Nevertheless, the Zelda and the IDF soldiers are really "cute"  wink_o.gif  good work... now I leave you working  smile_o.gif

It floats??  Do'h!!!!   I forgot to check that during beta testing.  Thanks for pointing that out.  Yeah as far as I know, the real Zelda is too heavy to float as it has some fairly massive amounts of extra armor on it.

As to the other questions, the LoBo mod's campaign (if we can round up all our mission makers) will be based upon a future fictional conflict against Egypt.  However we are also doing Syrian, Jordanian, and Palistinian forces.  But the Sanai campaign will mainly concentrate on Israeli vs. Egyptian forces in which the Egyptians will be equipped with current equipment such as the M1 tank and the Abrams M1 tank (yes America is selling both of those to Egypt but they're not equipped with as sophistacted technology as US or Israeli kit).

However while we won't be making historical missions, we WILL have made units that can be used by mission makers to make historical missions.  For example we have Egyptian and Syrian T-55's and I am working on a IDF Centurion Sho't tank.  I just need to find another addon maker and scripter to help me out in order to convert it into a combat engineering vehicle and add a few event handler scripts.   But as it is, it is almost ready for release.  Just needs a few bugs fixed.

I've also made a Moshe Dayan face as well if you want Moshe Dayan to lead the IDF troops in some historical battles.  He was one of the greatest Isreali generals in modern history and a very interesting and complex individual.

But I mainly made his face for OFP because he just looks the part of a commander with his ominous looking eye patch and piercing eyes.

smile_o.gif

Dayan.jpg

Dayan.jpg

"If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies."

-Moshe Dayan

We'll also likely throw in some Galil rifles as well (although there already a few excellent Galil rifles already made).  Since the IDF uniforms and the shape of the helmets haven't changed too much over the years the troops should be adequate for historical missions.

In addition to the work Lost Brothers is doing, Vit is also making some truly excellent Israeli aircraft including an IAF F15, F16, and C-130.  Although if his C130 is based on Hawk's C130 and the maneuverability I'll likely retexture Adammo's C130 in IAF desert cammo and insignia.

Currently I'm looking to see if an other mod team will share with us one of their Mig-21 models.  We have one that's not too bad (a heavily edited version of Footmunch's Mig-21's), but my editing work still doesn't hold a candle to the FDF's beautiful Mig-21.  But for now we'll just be using those models until we can imiprove them further.

4EgyptMig21s.jpg

Helicopters will include the usual assortment of Apaches, Cobras, Blackhawks, Hinds, and Hips, as well as a UH-1N that Vipersheart made.

So overall its going to be a fairly comprehensive pack and much of it is already done.

As for a website, yes we are working on setting up a new website.  You are right, the forum does look abandoned but that's because there is a "members only" section that LoBo members use which you do not see...its on that section that do all our internal debating and planning.  So the part you see is mainly just a question and answer fan section for suggestions, input, debate, ect...

So I'm hoping people will post a bit on there.  If they do I'll try my best to answer questions or reply to comments as often as possible.

I am gonna check these out tomorrow when I wake up. They look really promising and will go well versus UCE's middle eastern guerillas. Is the LBmod planning on doing any Jordanian or Israeli special forces soldiers? As those particular units have always impressed me. Yet I can't remember any names wink_o.gif

Great work guys, can't wait for the Merkava and the rest of your stuff!

Yes, there will be several IDF paratrooper and commando units (including Sayeret 13). In addition Vipersheart made some INCREDIBLE Jordanian Special Operations commandos that I LOVE using cuz they just look so damn cool. Using them in a mission however will be iffy as currently there isn't a huge chance of Jordan going to war with Israel any time soon unless there is a major coup by Islamic fundamentalists or Palistinian extremists. However they may play a role in missions where they hunt down terrorist groups in the desert that perhaps are attacking tourists (played by the BIS civilians). But really its up to the imagination of the mission maker as to what to use them for. But personally I like them alot. I posted some screenshots in OFP.info in the past.

Here's a pic:

In the background is a Jordanian Humvee equipped for Special Ops duties.

Hmmmm...Vit's addons  sad_o.gif

They're a bit iffy.

Vit's addons do have a few problems (like sticking Russian missiles on some of the F-15's) but his F15 and F16 models I think are quite good and fortunately he has configurations using western missiles and bombs. Plus they also fly well and have good sounds. But Vit is working seperate from us on his own. But we have contact with him and try to encourage him. Personally I think Vit's getting better and better at making addons. His fixed up F16 I think rocks! We're just waiting for his IAF version. He also has a nice IAF Blackhawk and Kiowa helicopter as well.

It would be good if he got permission from Hawk, or even better, if Hawk himself fixed the C-130, as it is one of the best looking aircraft addons there is. No offense, but Adammo's Herc isn't really up to today's level of addon quality.

I think Adammo's Herc isn't too bad. He fixed the interior nicely and now it has a animated rear cargo door. It's not as beautifully detailed as Hawk's, but it still isn't too bad and I love it's "bitch seat" in the middle. I had asked him a long time ago to put that in (like on the real C130's) so I was very happy to see it, and it feels very cool riding in that seat when the plane is flying. Plus it flies beautifully.

But I suppose mission makers could use either our Adammo based C130 or just use Vit's.

But if Vit fixes the handling problems then we'll probably just use Vit's.

The main and most annoying problem with Adammo's Herc is the lack of working instruments, clearly a must when flying an aircraft like the C-130... rock.gif

Ack. You're going into the IDF in two years? If so, OFP will not teach you the basic soldier skills required to survive. However it will give you a small taste of soldiering. But there is a million other things you will need to know. Your best bet is to talk to current or ex IDF soldiers especially if you think you might end up in the Palistinian areas. Learn from the mistakes of old soldiers.

One you have learned basic infantry tactics, then OFP becomes much more useful for practicing *some* of those skills. OFP for example will give a pretty good simulation of urban warfare. Throw in some civilians on a map with a big city (like the Tonal map) and you will discover how difficult it can be to avoid civilian casualties using heavy weapons (like tanks, grenades, and rockets). Mix civilians and enemy gunmen in a home and you'll very quickly discover that in a dynamic entry it's extremely difficult to avoid hitting civilians. In real life, using assault rifles its even worse because rifle bullets tend to go through walls and hit innocent people in other rooms or other homes. However for teaching basic marksmanship skills, OFP is nice if you don't have a real rifle to practice on.

But just remember that its still only a game, and not the real thing which is deadly serious and a million times more stressful and chaotic with no room for mistakes. Plus, without knowledge in basic infantry tactics, then OFP is just an arcade game. In real life anyone can pick up a gun and try to be Rambo... but there is a HUGE difference between such people and a well trained professional soldier who knows all the tricks and tactics of the trade and who knows how to operate with a squad as part of a well oiled machine that can strike and defend with the utmost precision, speed, and aggressiveness honed by intensive training.
