ENJ 0 Posted December 28, 2003 Well I got a little crazy adding a bunch of add-ons and when I put one to many I got a crazy message. Couldnt tell you what it was at the moment. However...when I took out one add-on it worked again. I could start up. Then i put in a different add-on. I did this several time and came to the conclusion that that there is a limit to the add-ons I could have. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? MEDICUS 0 Posted December 28, 2003 Do u use mod-folders? And witch version of OFP do u use? I think u can have nearly unlimited addons, if u store them in mod-folders. With OFP-Version 1.94 u have also the possibility to use the "-nomap" command (u won't get the "Out of memory"-message any more).
theavonlady 2 Posted December 28, 2003 Mod folders are the way to go. Generally, people start experiencing memory problems when addons pile up to 600MB and more, the breaking point being affected by your system's configuration. Don't know what mod folders are? Search The FAQ for "mod folders".
kroky 1 Posted December 28, 2003 Hehe I've got about 800 Megs Addons plus 12 mod folders (sometime using 3 or 4 at the same time), no error message no need to run -nomap command. The 1.94 Beta is doing the job. Fantastic! Maybe the 1,5 GB RAM helps too!
MEDICUS 0 Posted December 28, 2003 Maybe the 1,5 GB RAM helps too! Â I think so. I have 768MB RAM and i have to use the "-nomap". I normaly play with about 2 or 3 mod-folders (in the original Addon- and Res/Addon-Folder are only the official addons). They are about 1.2 GB big and i got desktop-crashes until i used the -nomap. With 1.94Beta and -nomap everything works fine now
@cero 0 Posted December 28, 2003 Yes, mod folders is the way to go, like Theavonlady say. I have so many addons instaled that I would not be able to play OFP if is not because of mod folders. The 1.94 patch is a must if you have problems of this tipe. Instead of using the resistance or 1.92 shortcuts, use the 1.94, it will alow you to use alot more of addons without problems. Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted December 28, 2003 I have 1.5gig DDR Ram too, but I do have to use the -nomap command. ok, I am using over 1.5gig of addons, so that could cause some minor issues

Don't know what mod folders are? Search The FAQ for "mod folders". For my self I create Mod Folder for each addon who begin with TAG (KEG, BAS) For now I have this command : "C:\jeux\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" -nosplash -nomap -mod=@ADDONS;@BAS;@BOH;@BW;@C8X;@CoC;@DKMM;@ECP;@HISKY;@INQ;@ISLAND;@KEG;@KMM;@LSR;@NAM;@OFrP;@ RHS;@ ROC;@RTS3core;@RTS3ww2;@TOW;@TWK;@UCE;@VIT Try to do same... It would be great that addons maker begin to use Mod Folder when they make donwloadable RAR files.

theavonlady 2 Posted December 28, 2003 Try to do same... Your method loads tons of addon definitions into memory when OFP starts up. It's almost like using one addons folder with everything in it. I only start up an occurrence of OFP with the addons that I need. This speeds up startup time and I'm sure leaves more RAM memory available for more efficient processing during gameplay. benu 1 Posted December 29, 2003 I load only one modfolder which is about 1,1gb in size, the addons folder in it has about 800mb. So far there are no problems for me. I used to have many addonfolders too, but it is not worth the hassle if you load all addons anyway. I only use other modfolder for addons i am not sure i will keep using (the last one was about 330mb). But even with (330mb+800mb+220mb Res Addons=) 1,35gb of addons i had no problems with ofp. ENJ 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Ok guys i am a lil slow at this. How exactly can i start a mod folder and get it to work with the OFP console. Do i just get a bunch of add-ons and put it in the add-on folder as any name I want or do I have to do something in piticualr? I am greatfull for all of your help by the way. I love this game but I dont have time to read all the tutorials becuase I am in s korea for the army and I dont have much time to go to my room and read tutorials. ENJ 0 Posted January 3, 2004 O yes btw. I do have 1.94 and I have the FDF mod installed but I forgot to mention that. sorry.
@cero 0 Posted January 3, 2004 OK ENJ, see if that hellp. Create a folder and call it whatever you want, for example "Europe". Now you have an empty folder called "Europe". double clik it and create another folder inside "Europe" call "Addons"(it is not case sensitive btw). In the addons folder is where you are going to put them pbos of the addons you want to use. Once all that is done, move the "Europe"folder with all its contents in the OFP folder. I normally go to "my computer", then to "programs", then to "codemasters", then to "OFP". Once inside the OFP folder you can see all the other files and folder, like the "Addons" folder, the "Users" folder, the "Resistance" folder,"Missions", and so on. Just put the Europe folder somewhere around there. Now right clik on the latest "EXE" you have instaled; in my case I have 1.94 patch instaled, it is call "Flashpointbeta.EXE". Right clik on it and clik on "Send to", and then clik on "Desktop create short cut". go to your desktop and right clik on the short cut you just created and clik on "properties". Look at the part that say "Short cut", on the top, and in there you'll see a part call "Target", in there it say this: Quote[/b] ]"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINT192BETA.EXE" All you want to do is to add something to it to direct it to your new mod folder call "Europe", so you type this. Quote[/b] ]"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nosplash -mod=Europe The "nonsplash meen that it won't go through the loading of all the logos and stuff like that, so it make it faster to load the game. You can allso add the "nomap" comand. Now you can rename the shortcut to Europe, and this will be ready for you to play the addons in that mod folder. It allso load the addons from the main addons folder and the ones from the resistance folder, no way to stop that, but you can't anyway, because you need the original BIS addons in order to play the game. You can link as many mod folder as you like, so if you have a mod folder, lets call it "Vietnam", you van do this: Quote[/b] ]]"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nosplash -mod=Europe;Vietnam This way you'll load two mod folders at the same time. You can put as many as you like. If you want to enhance the icon you can make your own ones or download some that you can use. I sugest you to go here, if you look around you'll come across some nice military ones. Go to the properties of you short cut and change the icon. You should know how to do that by now. I hope all this hellps. @CERO.
ENJ 0 Posted January 3, 2004 thanks alot for taking your time to explain. I only wanted to know if I could name it whatever I wanted. I already know the rest of it, hehe. Thanks again. I will be sure to do those things you have said!
