Platoon Ablaze 0 Posted November 1, 2003 Well as a lot of Readme, indicate to put the addons into the Res Addons' folder, I was curious about your choice to place addons in general, depending of the version eg:1.75,1.91 or the new "model" invoked sometimes in the addon's Readme. Personnaly, after a complete reinstall of OFP/Res up to 1.94; I've decided to put ALL addons in the Addons' folder of OFP, instead of putting some in Res Addons' folder, or mixing addons between the two OFP folders, after what the addonmaker tell you in his Readme. Having made few addons myself, I did the same thing, considering it would be better for the end users to put my addon into the Res Addons' folder, until I've read somewhere that is was useless, and that every addons should go into the Addons's folder. Since then I put all addons, the first made before Resistance release, as the latest requesting to be placed into Res Addons' folder, and so far I didn't get any troubles. edc 0 Posted November 1, 2003 I always put addons in the regular addons folder(and use Res/Addons just for official stuff), but unforunately, many addons tell you to use Res/Addons.
theavonlady 2 Posted November 1, 2003 All of my unofficial addons are in mod folders. The only unofficial things I have in OFP\AddOns and in OFP\RES\AddOns are island anim cutscenes that must be installed there in order to work. So, no vote from me.

dm 9 Posted November 1, 2003 Same here, all official addons in the Res/Addons folder. A few choice addons, like editor upgrades, JAM etc in the Ofp/Addons folder. And the rest in mod folders.
munger 25 Posted November 1, 2003 Yup, I put all official addons in Res/addons and all unofficial ones in OFP/addons. This way if I want to get rid of all unofficial addons for whatever reason I can just 'select all' and 'delete'. The main reason though is that I've experienced a few CTD's when placing unofficial addons in Res/addons, whereas I don't think I've ever had one when putting them in OFP/addons. No idea why this is. No vote from me either because i use only modfolders too. Which anims need to be placed in the normal addons folder? I have everything in modfolders and never noticed any problems, but i play only multiplayer and have no need for the anims anyway
theavonlady 2 Posted November 2, 2003 Which anims need to be placed in the normal addons folder? Most of them. A recent exception is BAS' Tonal Island, whose anim cutscene file folder must be placed in \RES\AddOns. The folder location is hard coded in an island's PBO file. Most island addon makers (that remembered to create an anim cutscene), used the OFP\AddOns folder.
Lt_Phoenix 0 Posted November 3, 2003 I voted addons folder, since I use a combination of addonsfolder, modfolders and OFPAM (addonmanager made by DKM). I usually place Sovjet and US stuff in the addonsfolder along with addons like jam and weapons/vehicles used by several different countries (HK-pack, OPFOR-pack etc...), whilst making modfolders for different era's (WWI, WWII etc..), different climates (desert and artic) and different countries/regions (UK, France, Canada, Asia, Scandinavia etc...). bonko the sane 2 Posted November 3, 2003 Im a Mod folder kind of guy My Res folder has strictly official addons (i do use SILESIAN'S retextured stuff in Res), my normal addons folder has official only + cutscenes + editorupgrade102 + JAM2 and a few other "universal" addons like streetlamp;lsd;kegsRussianweapons;USMCSimbols...everything else is in Mod folders....last time i checked i had 19 Mod folders
edc 0 Posted November 3, 2003 I don't really have any mod folders, except FDF and the like. If I get a memory map error(usually, I don't get memor-maps, I get D3D Out of vid. memory), I take a coupla big addons and just use Kegety's method of just extracting the stuff and putting the folder in your main OFP directory, then re-pboing w/ just cpp. It works well, and it isn't too particularly difficult, as long as you know how to un/re-pbo stuff. killswitch 19 Posted November 4, 2003 Mod folders or bust! OFP/Addons? Thats where broken trash addons go until I can't stand it and fix them. (and island intros, of course) OFP/Res/Addons? Not a single non-BIS addon and there never will be nor need to be.
joltan 0 Posted November 4, 2003 I generally use mod folders for everything - unfortunately there are a couple of addons that will display error messages in multiplayer if they are not placed in the \addons (and in a few cases it must even be the \res\addons) folder. This is most likely caused by some config errors or conflicts between addons. Whatever the cause, this applies for example to the old UCE mid east resistance before the group error was fixed, CTI, or the skidoo and the original KLR motorbike - the latter two need to be in the \res\addons folder. When trying an addon I always first put it in a mod folder, if that doesn't work it's placed in the regular addons folder. Only if that doesn't work either it goes into \res\addons - whatever the readme says about the intended location.
MadKiwi 0 Posted March 3, 2004 I have a minor but annoying problem which maybe someone can help me with. I have always had my addons in the res/addons folder (except for a couple in the normal addons folder) and everything works fine. Yesterday I decided to create a mod folder for all my unofficial addons following the instructions on Avon Lady's site. It seems to work ok but on a lot of missions at the start or whenever I load I get a missing addon error (the addons are definitely not required for the mission). I know the addons are there and the mission still works but this message pops up every time (it never used to when addons were in the res/addons folder). It seems to randomly choose between one of 3 addons: BAS_repairh, ASH_bmp2snow and ASH_bradleysnow. It's just annoying having to click ok whenever I reload after dying. havocsquad 0 Posted March 3, 2004 Neither, mod folders is my vote.... Why have a huge Addon folder when you can run just what you want to and nothing else.
