Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Here are some pics of the Merchant Ship I'm working on. It's a generic bulk carrier of the saltwater variety that always goes by where I live. A question for anyone who knows the answer. . . What's the maximum length a ship can be for it to work properly in OFP? This problem has limited the release of large ships, and I'm simply wondering what the number (in meters) actually is. . .
Acecombat 0 Posted October 8, 2003 OMG a Oil tanker !! Brilliant All i can say is that itss bloody realistic looking and i can see many potential in it...hmmm oil spill in OFP....

Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 It's not an oil tanker, it's a bulk carrier (steel, grain, etc. . .) but thanks for the comments. . .
redhawk_six 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Looks great Sigma. Does it an inside to it? Slightly offtopic: You wouldn't happen to live in Vancouver now would you Sigma?

blackdog~ 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Looks great Sigma. Does it an inside to it? Slightly offtopic: Â You wouldn't happen to live in Vancouver now would you Sigma? I used to live in Vancouver, Washington along the Columbia river
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Vancouver, Canada, you mean? hehe. . No, I don't live in B.C. I live in St. Catharines, Ontario, at the mouth of the mighty Welland Canal. . . across the lake I can see Toronto when they don't use their cars so much. hellfish6 7 Posted October 8, 2003 I'm assuming that you're making a non-static ship? It looks great. What's her name?
blackdog~ 0 Posted October 8, 2003 her name is fred! FRED!!! please name it BLACKDOG! name it the blackdog. and then put CRUISE MISSILEZ on it. Looks great, finally sometihing I can rage destruction with on the open high seas!

Ah, just thought you might live in Van City because we get a lot of those kind of freighters out here, at the mouth of the Fraser River.
coporal_punishment 0 Posted October 8, 2003 It looks good but the problem is that it is a single lod. I think the max from memory is 250 metres but I may be wrong so don't quote me.
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Quote[/b] ]It looks great. What's her name? Well, she's based on the plans of Polsteam's 'Isa', but in fact, looks a lot more like CSL's 'Spruceglen'. But I've made the set pretty generic, so people won't keep seeing the same ship. . . the hull will come in two colours.
soul_assassin 1750 Posted October 8, 2003 how about random container generation, could be easily done with hiddenselections.
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Well. . . I'll get the confessions out of the way ASAP, so that people aren't disappointed when it's released. . . I think it's better to release it instead of not releasing it because it has the same problems as the LST. It's 200 meters long, so that means it has geometry LOD bugs. often, if you have a boat next to it, your boat will go through because of this. if you're on deck, and you walk away from the helipad in the center, after about 30m, you'll fall through the deck. there are some visibility bugs if you're crew, and a few other things. Personally, I think it's a nice piece of scenery for cutscenes and missions with ports, and little more than that.
Acecombat 0 Posted October 8, 2003 It's not an oil tanker, it's a bulk carrier (steel, grain, etc. . .) but thanks for the comments. . . Yes but still it can be used as one cant it? Please add a action "Oil Spill" too? , i wanna have some hippy crisis where greenies come in to protest the oil spill and you haveto 'clear' them from the beach
hellfish6 7 Posted October 8, 2003 What the hell is so funny about oil spills? Yeah, people cleaning up beaches covered in thousands of gallons of oil is really funny and they totally need to be "cleared" from the beach. What a great mission idea. No, seriously, it is. And maybe we can have Sigma-6 make some floating crew members and a Coast Guard ship that we can snipe at when the freighter gets blown up, because we all know how much fun it is to shoot people trying to save others. Personally, I'm just looking forward to some eye candy for all those ports that we've got on these new islands. I think it'll be a lot more fun to take over a harbor with Earl and Suchey's Marines when the harbor looks "used" rather than just empty and neglected. So, two hull colors. How many different ship variations total?
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Now you've gone and pissed the icthiophile off. Or is it elasmophile? Or both? I can never remember. Either way, I think you can get an operation for it, Hellfish  edit: I can't help but notice the odd horizontal markings on the ship's hull. Could someone help a landlubber out and tell me what those are there for, if in fact they're there for any good reason at all? I'd assume they're there for size, distance, bearing and other assorted calculations for the benefit of nearby ships, but I thought everyone handled that by radar these days? Just curious- looks very nice by the way- I know a guy who would be able to put these to very good use as scenery in an island he's working on.
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Ichthyophobe? Why are you so scared of fish, man? Here's where to get help. . . I recommend you give them a call. Ichthyophobia clinic They're called 'plimsoll' markings. They indicate the tonnage of the load the ship is currently carrying, as well as the load it is allowed to carry by season by measuring its 'draught' (depth below the waterline). you can tell looking at that ship's markings that she's on ballast, which means she's not carrying any cargo. Quote[/b] ]So, two hull colors. How many different ship variations total? Four altogether. two blue hulls, one in ballast (empty, riding high in the water) and one loaded with cargo (riding low); and two red hulls the same as the blue. killagee 0 Posted October 8, 2003 This looks great sigma 6! Reminds me of the Ship the british used to transport Harriers to the Falklands back in 82. They actually operated 2 harriers off its deck as aircover! This is actually a very useful machine your building there M8
DeLiltMon 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Looks great, it will really give ports in OPF that used look
Acecombat 0 Posted October 8, 2003 uhmm well people cant see the light side of things .. can they? I know oil spills arent fun and games but we are talking about OFP here which is a game. Or perhaps some people might find killing soviets more fun ...
stgn 39 Posted October 8, 2003 what about boarding missions will they be pusible when the ship stands still. STGN
pang 0 Posted October 8, 2003 are the "low riding" ships going to have some containers etc stored on top? and is it static or isnt it? personally i think, big moveable ships dont make that much sence. especially for boarding/ clearing missions: mostly they would anchor because the terrorists or whatever wouldn´t have the knowledge to navigate them by themselves. anyways: i really like your work, sigma. keep it up. this ship will form another cool location for seal/ specop and even SAR missions. all in all: the ofp environment gets more complex! thx for this
Major Fubar 0 Posted October 8, 2003 <because we all know how much fun it is to shoot people trying to save others> You play Postal? Sorry, back ontopic: Would you make it like the LSD addon that you can walk around in, maybe a static and non-static version?
