Lock on: modern air combat

Anyone else find the first campaign mission for the Su-27 a bit insane? You and your wingman take off loaded with 4xR-27ER's, 2x R-27ET's and 2xR-73's and are immediately confronted by 4 F-16's loaded up with Aim-120's!!!  I've beaten it, but not consistently. The only tactic that seems to help is to climb as much as possible initially so that my R-27's have more kinetic energy than their Aim-120's (therefore more range), but even then I've got at least one F-16 trying to lock me up at all times (If I can get the first leader on the defensive with R-27's), and if I loose my lock at any time during the initial BVR pass, I'm dead (the leader of the first pair always manages to point his nose at me and launch a slammer before I can slew the radar beam over him again).

If I kill the first F-16 and make it to WVR, his wingman can normally get a lock on me before I can turn towards him (or at best, we lock at the same time)

Anyways, I just spent an hour and a half trying to figure out a tactic that would work consistently for this mission, and I should be cleaning the appartment :P

Like i said, the campaigns and missions are a big drawback. and their are not even dynamic

bah, the first one seems a bit hard but I love the second mission. Flying at full burner 20 meters off the ground with the radar off, relying on AWACS data link to sneak past a pair of F-16's on a fighter sweep ahead of an ELINT C-130, and popping up just beyond WVR, with the radar turned on just long enough to dispatch it and it's F-5E close escorts .

Man, I love the MiG! The thing flies like a Yak-3 with a warp drive, the thrust to weight ratio is amazing. Coming from the Su-27, the radar tracking range, combat radius and the measly 6 weapon pylons seem unimpressive, but when you're throwing it around the sky you really notice the difference in weight.

Here's a little aerobatic track I made showing off mostly the MiG's power in the vertical, along with some traditional High AOA stuff, a somewhat suicidal low speed pass, and a very short landing approach

For anyone who cares, here's a recording of a similar but leaner air show (5 mins as opposed to 7) where I started lightly loaded with fuel, shows much better energy management on the vertical, more suicidal high-speed-low-altitude passes, and IMHO, much better camera work on the edit

I have no knowledge on the SU's or the F-15.

Hey guys, I know this is a little late, but I dled the demo, and it is working, BUT I CAN'T FLY! it's like it's on pause, but there is sound, graphix, everything and it looks GOOD! Why is it doing this?

Press 'S' to unpause. The game starts paused. If you have a USB-keyboard then 'S' might not work. Re-map it to something else.

Oh and the full version has far less bugs and can usually be found in the bargain bin for 20$.

Still, remapping might still not solve your problem. I know the bug is still in the retail-version, but it has supposedly been improved alot. I've never experienced the bug as I use a good old fashion ps/2 keyboard.

There is no 'other', there is 'view', 'custom', 'flight', and 'combat'. No Other!

I did have a similar problem with the game BlitzKreig, the keyboard wouldn't respond, but a patch fixed it.

Prolly under 'custom' then.

In the retail you got 'other' instead of 'custom', rest is the same.

Try to steal/borrow/buy a ps/2 keyboard if you can't find the re-map for pause.

This game is worth it if you like modern flight-sims

This is awesome! I hope I'll be able to afford a new machine soon, because I really want to fly this sim. I used to play falcon 4.0 a lot. I just love the realism in games.

Here's how it goes. Ubi abandons Lo-Mac, and Eagle Dymanics is forced to concentrate on what the Russian market wants. What does the Russian market want? The Su-25T, and improvements in the Russian avionics. If UBI had given Lo-Mac a fraction of the support it gives Il-2, maybe we'd be seeing work in progress of an F/A-18, but hey, it's business as usual.

There is still hope though, for ED has mentioned they will work on at least another addon after this one - they'd like to make the Ka-50 flyable, and if enough people petition/but the Su-25T addon, who knows? The F-18 everyone's been crying about might become a reality

Yes, and whats worse is that they only plan on updating the SU-25. None of the other aircrafts benefits from this expansion-pack

Not true, there will be bugfixes, a few new features, and realism improvement on Russian avionics. I'll see if I can dig up some pics

*edit* from what I gather though, you might be partially right as to that word on the street say the new physics might only apply to the Su-39
