Operation x : terror island

Yo all, i got some new pictures for the Operation X's Terror Island (Terrorland) tounge_o.gif

Wich is currently in the making, the island is currently 5% done so its some months more untill its done.

I worked allot on this island today.

so i got some new screens for you, but first i want to share with you some information about this island and the whole Operation X Project;

For two years now a small team have created one of the best Mission mods that i think exists in the OFP community, but not many people know about it, and not many people tryed it, so we are doing some new stuff and this island for the next release, and when this is released, i hope that it willl be a big success, because like 90% of the people i know who tryed this loved it REALLY MUCH!

Anyways, this island Wich will be the island you will fight on in the upcoming OPX version, is cinda extremly big... so it will take time to do it, im allready up on 27 000 objects and i didnt even get 10% so it will be lagland for people with bad comps, so i would recomend a High end computer for it biggrin_o.gif anyways heres some new pictures on a big city located south of the island.

And my suggestion is to have a few less rocks and a few more bushes, otherwise it looks nice smile_o.gif

And a sidewalk and a few trees could hep in the city to make it look more inhabited.

Thoose stones are only at some small places around the island, im focusing on realism so biggrin_o.gif

My suggestion would be a cooler island name, something with more personallity than "Terrorland".

And; Something missing in many of the custom islands. Life.

I'd like to see more historical background, political factions with their own HQ:s(a bit like RepublicRev). Natural resource sites, Industries(named), railroads(not necessary of course). Custom flags?

Why all that? Because; With a deep background it's easier to think up campaigns, missions in the environment.

Well; That's all I could think of now smile_o.gif

Oh. And billboards/ads with Coca Cola, Heineken, Becks, IBM or similar. I like some brand advertising smile_o.gif.

A rail system would be the bogs dollox if it was possible to make the train stay on the tracks (if it was anything like the roads! tounge_o.gif ) . Imagine all the scenarios possible!, troop transport, resistance attacking them, big~railguns, tank transports, and being a train driver!!(or conductor!!!, a custom "can I have you ticket please, Madam" function in the action~bar!) wow_o.gif ...

PS, one thing that's lacking is a shop, even one!!. It's a wonder Nogovans did'nt starve to death, let alone the reddeath!! biggrin_o.gif ...

I realise railroads might be pushing it but I saw that beautiful Phoenix Island with railroads so I was hoping it was possible smile_o.gif.

There might be a way of doing it. Make the rail as a road(have it named 'Rail' in the 'Roads' tool) with a custom texture. Is there a way of naming it and making a line in the config that stops AI driving on it in cars(lenghtways anyway!) when given a 'Go to' command. I've only just started Island making so I'm not to sure on what's possible...

What is 'Pheonix Island'?...

Almost looks like a Swedish M90 uniform there.

Yeah I see multi purpose uses for this island, they seem to have enough variety. In another pic I saw what could be some sort of plantation.

I like the cultivated look, which I think is lacking in alot of islands. I want to use the 'ploughed field' texture and surround it with bushes to form a hedgerow effect, with gates/gatepost and dirttracks arround the edge of the 'fields' for a 'realistic' farmed area effect...

I don't know which bush model to use though, none of them are 'pruned' to give a uniform enough 'box' shape sad_o.gif . Any suggestions on a good model or an addon of some bushes/natural objects?...

I'll have to learn how to model, a drystone wall maybe? I'm only just getting the hang of Visitor. I have no idea how to write a config.file for an island though. I'll have to digup a tutorial. So much to learn!, I'm a right latecomer biggrin_o.gif ...

This island will have a background story and more stuff as soon as Operation X is released and you play it, youll see...

This island is to be an Russian island, and there comes a war because of something ull get to know later, and please read what i write before replying i allready had an answer up in this post when one of u guys asked a question.

hehe , yeh maybe one of them ill figure something up later.

BUT, im done for now, cus i got some homeworx to do, i might be doing more on the island later toonight (depends) this island needs to be done quickly and by the way later toonight i will give you screens of the biggest city made for ofp IN ALL TIMES biggrin_o.gif

Very nice! I have a suggestion: don't mix the smaller houses with the apartments. It really is unrealistic, I doubt you would ever find a neighborhood of 2 story houses surrounded by a bunch of apartments. Try to give the cities a neater look, placing the Apartments together and then gradually reducing the sizes of the building used the further out you go. Look at any skyline of a city and you will see what I mean. smile_o.gif

In this case, especially in European and Western Civilized societies, this holds true. The basis of cities and towns throughout most of the EU and US have been thoroughly planned in 'grid' systems with developmental considerations (i.e. housing considerations). Excellent point.

However, in areas like Colombia, El Salvador, and a large portion of South American countries, I've seen first hand the lack of 'city planning.' Zoning isn't as much of a issue as it is here in the states or over the pond, and individuals have far more freedom of building, with much less red tape regarding standards of living. Henceforth, a myriad of buildings, ranging from multi-story apartment buildings to low-income houses all in the same area.

In this European style island, USMC sniper is honest in saying the apartment/houses mix looks a bit out of place.

Looks great though, keep up the good work...

I think mixing house types(well colours texture/materials mainly) does'nt look right either. They should all be of the same era and builing materials IMO sad_o.gif . I'd like to see a different texture around the house plots/bases as well (other than grass). Some of the tntnpsps ones maybe for dirttrackside houses? And tntnssss for mainroad sides?(I don't know the Res names) Also have some B road Tee's that run off the main road to behind the houses to a parking area maybe?...

Just to give it a 'complete' look, if you know what I mean smile_o.gif ...

PS, some woodrailed/fenced in plots around the country/rural houses as well would be sweet...
