hellfish6 7 Posted August 21, 2003 I agree with most all of Blackdog's points. However, that Alouette sound really, really annoys me. Some additional pros: Weapons are all pretty good. Only a few strange looking textures (SKS is too red/pinkish). Suprising to find that the AR-10 really does look like it does in game. Sounds/voices are clever and original, but pretty rough. Sounded like I was listening to recordings of people in a coffee shop or making sounds for their friends instead of being in Africa. Some cons: Rescue 01 mission was pretty bad - especially that mid-mission cutscene where you spend several minutes watching people rappel while your helicopter flies uncontrolled. Island lags pretty bad for me too. And there doesn't seem to be enough vegetation on it - I keep looking at the same ground textures over and over, and the forests are all really blocky until you get really close to them. I'd suggest using individual trees to break up the forest outlines. Also, are those really huge trees supposed to be so big? 75m? If there is supposed to be a lot of open grasslands, you may want to at least put bushes or ground cover there. Aside from the sounds, try getting into the Alouette as the 6th person. Your seat is somewhere in the tail. Very, very odd looking. It might work well to remove the doors to that of the four passengers, two are in seats and two are sitting in the empty doors, like in the BAS Blackhawks or the SEB Hueys. CanadianTerror 0 Posted August 22, 2003 Most of the African's weapons(other than the MG and pistols) have no ammo...? Well at least for me anyways. No one else have this happening? Most of those weapons could be replaced with upminders ww2 pack though. EDIT: I do really like the whole concept though. I get tired of killing Russians as well. Good job overall! miles teg 1 Posted August 22, 2003 I agree with others that this mod has great potential. The island was what I was really waiting for, but I was very disappointed by the giant trees (I didn't know giant Redwood trees grew in Africa) and ackward layout. I also hoped for different ground textures and with bushes, grass and rocks scattered on the open areas. However on the plus side, the units are fairly well done and I love the Fula guide (although his spear could be better modelled and he should be able to hold it as a weapon perhaps). Another cool thing was the mine sweeper on the engineer. Too bad however it doesn't actually detect mines. Perhaps some scripting expert could help them make it actually make a noise when the unit gets near a mine while holding the mine sweeper. Even if it's just a map script that would be cool. Also I hope they can make it where he holds it like a rifle as in real life, minesweepers have no helmet, or weapon on them so as not to activate mines that are activated by anything metal passing over it. Another thing that I thought was very cool was the huts on the island. Very nice looking. The natives also looked very nice but honestly I don't think many African women in those kinds of tribes have boobs that perky. The helicopter I thought was nice, but like others said, the engine sound sucks, not so much because the sample sucks, but because it's missing the rotor sound. It's just mainly a jet engine sound which just sounds wierd. The Unimog however I thought looked ok. It wasn't super detailed, but I thought it still looked fairly good. For further improvements, I hope this mod team, fixes the faces on the Guinea soldiers, gets rid of the giant trees on the island, add different ground textures on different parts of the island (like lighter brown textures for the open areas), and add bushes, grass, and rocks to the open areas. Also the wierd cries by the dying Portuguese soldiers is very annoying. That should be removed or turned down. Anyways, overall this mod is a great start and certainly holds alot of promise. The island alone could become a OFP standard if it was fixed up. Hopefully they'll continue to improve upon this mod and I look forward to newer versions of it in the future.
