philcommando 0 Posted August 21, 2003 My first addon was the cargo ship built for ofp 1.30 and since then, i had a few pm request for this ship and have decided to upgrade it for OFP 1.75 Pics: www.geocities.com/philcommando/shipscr1.jpg www.geocities.com/philcommando/shipscr2.jpg www.geocities.com/philcommando/shipscr3.jpg I am still using geocities for download and not the other news' site cos i figured this addon to be experimental at best and not news worthy as OFP has only limited support for sea objects due to the geometry limits and AI interaction over water surfaces. For those that managed to download this addon, good for u. For those that couldn't, no loss to your gaming fun, cos i doubt if u would have miss anything. miles teg 1 Posted August 21, 2003 Cool! Great Job Phil!!!!! Also I want to say that you did a superb job on the readme file that comes with it. Alot of addon makers fail to include all the animation scripts and stuff forcing mission makers to have to DePBO the addon in order to see what the scripts are. However you included all that information and even included all the "getPos" heights and stuff. That's wonderful!!!! Thanks again! Keep up the great work Philcommando!!!! I for one really like the way you make addons which the rest of the addon makers haven't touched on. I'd much rather you did that than tried to make another M4 or some such. punishment 1 Posted August 22, 2003 hi your addons are good but i think you take to many prodjects up at once after all you are one person not a mod! philcommando 0 Posted August 22, 2003 Thanks for your warm responses, encouragements and advice even though there are obviously flaws in that ship. I hope u good folks would continue to do such to the other addon makers too for it sure isnt to create addons, takes a lot to grapple with the graphics, geoLODs, Ai interaction issues even though we are not staff of BIS or trained by them. Compared to other addonmakers, lol!,i am only an apprentice, definately not anyway near greatness. i prefer to keep a low profile. I started creating addons only cos those that i want was not avaliable, and whatever i created, i unselfishly share with those that want it, to interact or just blow it to oblivon, rather than to wait for someone to create for me. For those that want better quality in terms of textures and features, guess u would have to wait for the addon makers....sure aint easy to create, takes time. Yes! that ship was modelled after the 007movie but dramatically scaled down to fit OFP's geoLOD and graphics limitations. It can swallow only small objects, definately not klink's sub as he too made it to OFp's limits. My main challenges in creating this ship,something all good addonmakers faced, was - 1. overcoming the BIS 64meters geoLOD. I had no choice but to skip the rear(engine compartment) and provide collision detection/geoLOD only for bow to bridge. I could create parts style addon but it will not move and becomes a static object. 2. graphics - besides not taxing the processor to create lag with better graphics, i do not have quality pics - correct angle and correct light condition pics to work with to create the 3d effect from far. No ship captain's gonna give me his blueprints and good pics to use. The other problem was Ai interaction within a vehicle class object. I must unmodestly say that i was the first to pioneer user movement interaction within vehicle class object with the first cargo ship addon which other addonmakers later saw the possiblities to have more user vehicle class interaction but unfortunately i have yet to see any addonmaker overcoming the AI interaction within a vehicle class - giving orders to move to a particular spot in vehicles ( not static objects) Anyway, i talked too much already. cheers from a Singapore OFP fan.
