OFP vs GHOST RECON

Recommended Posts

feature?

if you aim at a target, and find your reticle is just to the left, tap right and the reticle will fly to the right of the target slightly, you can't aim in between....

I have them both and I love to play them. They are diffrent but if they weren't I wouldn't have bought GR when it was released (period)

My GR box is still unopened and will remain like that for at least 3 months, possibly more.  I haven't stopped playing OFP since July and won't stop for GR, that's for sure.  The only reason why I bought GR is because the store made a price mistake on the game and I wanted to bust some poor store clerk's balls to get him to give it to me at the lower price.  Maybe I'll just give it away as a Christmas present, but then again, reading the posts in this thread, GR seems to be a sucky present to get.

Give it to somebody who doesn't know anything about games (and especially one who doesn't know what OFP is).

I don't see why you all hate GR so much. Both games are wonderful and I love playing them both. OFP really captures sqaud level combat for me, while GR sepc ops operations, just like it is supposed to. If you don't like the threat indicator, turn it off, it's an OPTION. I find nothing wrong with a game that has gameplay features that makes it more accessable to more people. It's like having different levels of flight models and avionics in a flightsim.

One thing I love about GR is that your soldiers actually use suppressive fire. They use the SAW like is supposed to be used. Just spray an area

The game also runs crap on high end systems.<span id='postcolor'>

Sucks don't it

No it doesn't.  It runs great.  But the reqs are steep, and the recommended is even steeper.<span id='postcolor'>

I have a athon 1.4ghz and 128ddr ram and a geforce 2 64mb 200(I know it ain't the best crad in the world)

I only achie a 30-40fps when I'm lucky at 32bit at some resloutin over thousand and detail set to medium. that ain't good at all as I get excelant fps at ofp and Ma payne<span id='postcolor'>

exactly the same case with me

i have the same system (bit more ramn and geforce3) and i can't get a better framerate on ghostb recon than i get on opf (max settings)

i find the spec ops missions in opf even better though, they have much more atmosphere, i remember fondly how i felt on top of that mountain, overlooking the mountain outpost, and seeing UAZ's and BMPs and T-80's whizzing around down below, i remember s**tting myself when the flares went up giving away my position as i crawled slowly down the cliff face

spec ops in opf are overall much more atmospheric, and they have the opf gameplaym which means it kicks ass anyway.

I found the Spec Ops in OFP a little 'me against the world'. I don't like going at it alone. I like doing a bounding overwatch with my squad and setting up ambushes with two teams from different directions. I don't know, I find the AI in GR not that bad if you think and move cautiosly. I remember on the first map when my bravo team got caught by the second bunker up on the mountain. They were ahead of me and as I heard the radio saying they were pinned down I turned them onto supressive fire and you felt the whole world around you explode as all six men drop everything they have on the bunker. They also go ripping rounds into tents to kill people, just a lot more loose with ammo in certain regards.

Don't get me wrong I love each game just as much and glad that I have both. OFP just sucks me in and I just want to LIVE through a battle, not go rambo and kill everyone.

stop bad mouthing GR

gr is a way better simulation of spec ops than ofp

think about it

GR is based on landwarrior

thats why you cant see the gun cos there is a video feed piped to the mobile hud from the top of the gun

landwarrior also allows you to use GPS which explains why you can pinpoint location of teamates on the map

the threat indicater IS nrealistic but its there because it is hard to see someone in a bush dressed in good camo, besides you could always turn it off

you talk about atmosphere, the best atmosphere ive felt in any game so far is multiplayer GR, firefight, creeping through bushes with an SA80

best spec ops atmosphere i've felt is sneaking into a well patrolled enemy base in the dead of night, crawling up on several parked tanks, setting charges, merely 30 metres away from several enemy soldiers, then sneaking as slowly as possible into a enemy choppers, taking off, firing rockets at the AA and flying away, ejecting over some forest and blowing the tanks up as you float down to safety

i somewhat doubt i'd get that experiance in GR.

i prefer working solo in any game really, i see having a squad to command is just hassle and an annoyance, in GR i found myself sending my squad to random locations (map was s**te so i didn't know where to effectivly put my teams anyway) and then going alone with my squad, thwen 30 minutes later it'd be like, s**t, i have a squad, then i move them 500 metres forward to random positions, go it alone, get killed, move to next squad, get killed....

that is if the AI squads aren't totally slaughtered by a single guard behind some snadbags.

I agree that it's a good game, but I won't buy it because I have OFP and it is better.

It doesn't use the GTA3 engine. Mafia was in production before the GTA3 engine was completed.

<span id='postcolor'>

GTA3 uses the renderware engine (which is crossplatform, so that they can port it easily). The PS2 version of GTA3 is virtually being streamed of the dvd as you drive around (because of the limited system memory). Mafia uses an entirely different system that has nothing to do with renderware.

Just had to say it smile.gif

The best black op mission in ofp is when you have to find the 3 shilkas. This mission is some aspects is very realistic It would have beem even better that after you found each one you could have used the laser desinator and called in a air strike or something like artillery.

First Black Op mission is very good but not as much as Saboteur, Recon and Wake Up Call. Hind Attack is the best.
