Opflash on a top-o-the-line pc

Recommended Posts

I'm upgrading to a P4 3.0c in 2 weeks, and I'm just wondering if any other opflash community members has tried it with such a powerful PC. I'm wondering what kind of perfomance I should be able to expect.

Here's my specs:

P4 3.0ghz 800mhz FSB

512mb DDR

Creative Audigy

Radeon 9700pro

Incidentally, it's running quite nicely right now with my Radeon and 1.3ghz duron, but, well, Halflife 2 is coming out soon so the most intelligent thing to do was to drop $1300 on a new PC smile_o.gif

Is Radeon 9700 Pro a DX9 card? I was just thinking of buying it, but I'm looking for a DX9 card so I need to know for sure.

Hardly a BI General topic, methinks you should invest in a non-slip mouse instead of a new PC wink_o.gif

TS will suffice.

Up until recently (I broke my 9700pro) I was running with this configuration:

Tbred B 2400+ - Running at 200*11.5 (2.3ghz)

512 XMS3200 - Running at 200

Epox 8RDA+ - Nforce2

9700pro - Running at 370/330

Scoring about 18k 3dmark01s at default [Catalyst] settings. The CPU benchmark included in OFP scored about 6300. I ran in 1280x960 with 4xAA and 8xAF on.

Compared with most other games that ran at a bare minimum of 50fps constant, performance sucked. But in the context of Flashpoint, it was ok. Usually between 25-40fps and certainly playable, but still below that threshold where the framerate is sufficient for it to become silky smooth to the eye.

I could have undoubtably gotten 50+fps with 4xAA and 8xAF off, but it would look hideous then.

Sorry Placebo smile_o.gif I'll keep your suggestion in mind rock.gif

Not bad at all. Yeah, the 9700pro is a dx9 card. Splintercell looks gorgeous with it... I can't wait to crank up the details in flashpoint. I'm currently getting about 3300 in the OFP CPU Benchmark.
