Scoring system

Recommended Posts

I have done a search and have found no topics on this subject so here I go:

I think there is room for improvement in the case of the scoring system.

For example: Your flying along in a fight with an enemy plane. You fire a burst of cannon fire which hits the enemy plane badly damaging it. The AI pilot hits the silk and the plane hurtles to the ground and explodes on impact. If you look at the end of the mission, you will not be credited with this kill and thus recieve no points. It appears that the enemy plane has to explode as a direct result of your weaponary to get points.

The reverse of this situation is when you get credited with kills that aren't yours.

Lets say your in an Apache flying at low altitude and you get hit. You don't explode but you lose power and drop from the sky. You either dont have enough time to bail out, or if you do your so low you die anyway. Regardless, the chopper explodes and you and your gunner are dead. If you look at the scores, you will be blaimed for your own death, the death of the gunner and the destruction of your helicopter leaving you with a score in the negatives.

Maybe this only happens to me, but if not: I hope that BIS will be able to fix this problem so the scoring systme isn't so muddled smile_o.gif

Americas Army has a excellent Scroring system! With the ROE.. If you shoot your own team too much (how much is set by the server) you´ll end up in prison. Sure you get punished in OFP too, with -1 point or so but the way it´s in AA you get more ROE for just causing injuries.

The game should keep a record of who hit what and when. Instead of having "gaia" getting redit for your kills, you should get credit sinece you were the last one to hit them, causing the damage.

But it could get a little odd lets say if you shoot someone and their plane crashes later maybe just because of their own error. Would you still end up getting the kill?

Well maybe they (BIS) could implement a complicated scoring system so say if you hit a chopper in the engine and it flew off, then crashed later on because of engine faliure caused by your bullets, you get the kill. If they just crash into a mountain through bad flying, then they recieve negative points biggrin_o.gif

Since that would probably be way too complicated, I think a system like you suggested where the last person to hit the craft gets the kill if it goes down. There might be instances where the crash is caused by another factor other than the damage inflicted by weaponary, but it would probably be correct most of the time.

So if I spy a chopper flyig overhead and put 1 round from my silenced glock into it, and it crashes 5 minutes later, I'd get the points? No thank you.

Score it by % damage done. If 90% of the damage was caused by an AA missile, then the chopper crashed, give the credit to the shooter of the AA. If 0.0001% of the damage was caused by 1 subsonic 9mm round and the rest by collision, give no credit.

I agree with Baron.

There should also be a lot more focusing on teamwork when using the scores. I think that there should be more than just destroyed or not destroyed. It would be great to devide vehicles into seperate points. If you just blow the tires, hit the main rotor or smash the tracks, you receive a small amount, if you kill crew, you receive points for them, if you destroy a weapon or making it no longer rotate, you receive points, and so on and so on. People should not be just rewarded for the total destruction but also for damaging stuff. Of course therer shouldn't be any point for making a hole in the side of a tank with a glock.

Another teamplay-orientated aspect could be that every crew member receives the points for damage the gunner inflicts. This increases teamwork, and makes people willing to drive a tank with others, rather than be gunner themselves.

Thats a good solution smile_o.gif

Although it depends on how the damage system works. Hopefully OFP2 will have a much more realistic damage system so if you can't destroy a chopper by shooting it into one spot until its armour is down to 0%

I belive that scoring system should be like in WWII for pilots. If someone of your commarades witnessed your kill, you were able to report it to the official records. Scoring points are useless, they work properly only in Tetris. And where are the merits and medals?

And if there must be any reward at all, then your AI team-mates should pat you on your back, and say to you "you did a good job" or something like that. And all the players will very satisfied because all the squad says how good they are. Or even better, for example: you take out a tank and your team-mate has a camera. After the gunfire ends and the area is secured, you go take a picture at your trophy. Who gives a damn about the numbers I get at the end of the mission, it isn't even realistic. Do the soldiers get points for damage they do in real life?

yep I'm all for this....

Also how about something that will save your certain stats....

like...

Fav. weapon ..which would show the one you use most often

Fav. Vehicle

Shots fired

Hits

Accuracy percentage

killed (under this it could have a break down on what types of things were killed and possibly with what)

captures

Saves

Then it would tell how many times you were killed

It could either have the option for saving this for multiplayer stats or single player stats smile_o.gif

Just a thought
