Ofp witn xp

Recommended Posts

Hey, I just got a brand new pc and I recently installed ofp. But for some reason ofp just shuts off for no reason at all, no warning no nothing, and next thing I know I'm at my desktop. On my old pc it ran off of windows ME and a pentium 3 processor with a nivida graphics card. Now it runs off windows xp pro and a pentium 4 with a radeon grahpics card, and it just shuts off. any ideas on how to fix it?

OFP has no problem running on XP, they two get along just great.

How much memory do you have, you may not have enough.

try dling updated drivers for your Radeon graphics card. They ahve been know to cause quite a few problems with OFP.

I had the same problem with Windows 2000 Pro and I think it might be a heat thing. Have you tried running OFP with the side off your system case?  As soon as I tried it the game stopped crashing immediately.

I've got a Radeon 9700 Pro and Athlon XP2600+. There are plenty of fans in my tower but the weather is fairly warm at the moment.

So I'm hoping it's just the mini-heatwave that's causing the problem - I don't really want to have to take the side panel off every time I play a game!

Is yours a Radeon 9700 Pro too?

I threw out my case cover, took my case fan and hung it pointing at the CPU, memory and graphics card. I took a spare CPU fan and hung it in front of my HD's. I can keep my PC on 24/7 now and the drives and CPU don't heat up at all. The heatsink on the CPU is cold to the touch.

Just pointing this out so that you don't think you need to keep your computer case closed, or in the configuration a manufacturer chose. The way the case fan was positioned by the manufacturer, at the front of the case, did almost no good for cooling anything except the PCI cards, of which I have a whopping one of at this point.
