It  looks rather small at just under 10 MB,ill try  it later.

Anyone who puts any amount of trust in software translators deserves to have their ass kicked by the person they're conversing with when they inadvertedly tell them that their mother does strange things with vegetables while they're trying to say "hi" :P.

Anyways I'm off to download it now, I'll post some screenies later smile_o.gif.

I tried taking a picture of it today (made a nifty little spiral with the flare doing a roll biggrin_o.gif) but it pasted strangely into MSPaint, I'll try it with a different program...

Nope, colors come up wierd when I take a picture with printscreen or with this program. sad_o.gif The program's called FSScreen if you're interested, available at http://fly.to/matthias-holzer

And yes tovarish the M key does put the thing in maneuver mode.

....

crazy_o.gif This plane is fantastic.

Whoa! I haven't had this much fun in a pointless flight sim in a while! Man it is such a shame this plane is not going to be available to fly in any combat flight simulator anytime soon sad_o.gif. The fact that the only two HUD submodes available are "dead reckoning navigation" and "waypoints" hurts too...I see the buttons for the weapons submodes but they're unselectable...so tantalizing sad_o.gif.

Anyways, I took some pics, first thing I noted was the difference between this and the stock Su-27's cockpit:

Su-27

Su27.jpg

Su272.jpg

Su-30MK

Super0.jpg

There are some similarities, and some gagues are the same even though they've been moved...but you can definitely see the improvements in the 30...the only CRT the 27 had was for the Radar. Then I went flying, and man what a blast smile_o.gif.

Good view of the Thrust vectoring nozzles

Super1.jpg

Wheeee!

Super2.jpg

Don't get cocky just cause you're on my 6

Super3.jpg

Super4.jpg

Yes that's right, I was flying backwards :P

And how about that rollrate?

@ May 27 2003,10:13)]wow_o.gif  Can the Su-30 actually do that?

The reason I even tried the "Somersault" is I've seen video of the Su-37 (Basically a single seat Su-30) performing it biggrin_o.gif. I'll post it later but I have to run now. To be fair it took me a few tries to find the correct speed/AoA combination to do it properly smile_o.gif.

Here's the video. "Save as"

http://aeroweb.lucia.it/~agretch/Movies/su37.12.13.14.MPG

And here's a step by step drawing. Not exactly as I did it - I tried to keep the nose pointed at my smoke trails as long as possible

the Su-37 (Basically a single seat Su-30)

I thought Su-30 had better thrust vectoring than the Su-37, at least the MKI version, whatever the difference to the MK version is...

this clip about the Su-37 looks quite nice too.

You have to remember that the Su-37 is a testbed so it's technology is constantly changing. The Su-30MK is more advanced than the Su-37 was initally (among other things, I believe the thrust vectoring has been made more 3D) But I would assume those changes have been incorporated into the 37 now. BTW, the Su-30MKI is simply the export version customized for India's needs - hence the 'I' at the end. Just as the Su-30MKK is the export version customized for China 'K' for 'Kitai' (China), and Su-30MKM for Malaysia.

And yeah, that video you posted is sweet smile_o.gif. I love how it seems to hover at some points, and it illustrates the kind of maneuver I was showing in my screenshots much better than the video I posted.

Lockheeds JSF has the funny movable nozzle but it was only for vertical landing.

How fast is the roll rate on it usually they roll a lot faster in real life though the hawk add on for OFP had a superfast roll.

LOL everytime I want to do the "Somersault" I always end up in a spin.  crazy_o.gif

Start off at around 340-370 km/h, and pull hard back on the stick, lighting the afterburners at the same time. From then on it's all timing....you want to stall slightly past the 90 degree mark so you just flip onto your back - this might take some working the throttle during the maneuver. After you flip, you're going to be at a virtual standstill. (I was reading around 30km/h near the end), and you're going to drop at least a hundred meters (but with the thrust vectoring, you can pretty much keep your nose pointed where you want). Hope that helps smile_o.gif. Later on tonight I'm gonna play around with it some more and see what else I can do - damn shame you can't record tracks in this version sad_o.gif.

Yeah.. I'd love to record my own flight shows. biggrin_o.gif

Funny though you can't crash... U'd just bounce off the ground. LOL biggrin_o.gif

I also found out you can taxi sideways. crazy_o.gif

Eh.. I thought its a "Declassified" version. biggrin_o.gif

Damn.. I can't taxi normally over the runway after touching the tarmac.. I keep going sideways with about 30 km/h biggrin_o.gif

Wheel brakes dont work either.

They don't? I've had the problem of them working too much. If you push the wheel brake key (W) on the ground you pitch down a little over 5 degrees, whether you're moving or not.

Plus the fact that it's a key and not a pedal so you can't use "light braking" or just enough to get you stopped at the nearest available taxiway. It's either on or off. wow_o.gif

I've been doing most of the maneuvers by simply watching the demo that came with the sim and emulating it on my own. But that video you showed us has some stuff that's not in there, this could take some work. biggrin_o.gif

Yep... they dont work while moving 90 degrees sideways. biggrin_o.gif

I can only stop moving sideways by going forward with afterburners.

Oh ok, lol. I guess they only cancel forward velocity.

I've got most of the maneuvers that were demonstrated down. The cobra is easy, the chakra is pretty simple too. But the bell I'm having trouble with. I've got the AOA limiter off, but I just can't keep my nose at 90. I can keep it up generally, but not usually at 90.

Anybody know how to spin this darn thing? crazy_o.gif

And an inverted one:

bell2.jpg

You don't want 90 degrees, you want 80-85. Start off level at around 500km/h, cut the throttle and pull up hard, try to be at around 100km/h or less when you reach between 80 and 85 and just try to stay there.

As for the spins I can't get them myself either, but I think it's my joystick setup. You need rudder and it won't let you do it with the keyboard if you have joystick controls selected, and I locked my twist handle in place.

Got it to Spin, wasn't in maneuver mode before:

spin2.jpg

Keep in mind that this is a controlled spin, and the Su-27 and MiG-29 are known to recover from spins by themselves "as soon as pro-spin control inputs are withdrawn"

P.S. is it just me, or is the tailslide one of the coolest looking maneuvers ever?

I'll try that with the bell. I assume you need to have the AOA limter disengaged?

About the spin though, what control inputs do you need to do it?  I've never done a spin in a real aircraft, but in the sims I'd just stall, kick in full rudder and aileron in one direction, full back pressure and enjoy.  I can't get this thing to stall in the first place.

I think I was wrong about the "A" disengaging the limiters. In the Flanker series you have to be out of the NAV or MARCH (navigational) Avionics submodes in order for it to work - else you'd just be engaging the autopilot. Here those are the only two Avionics submodes you have. I'm fairly certain you get basically the same effect by hitting "M"

For the spin, I basically went up to 7000 meters, cut back the throttle and turned hard, applying rudder in the same direction (yeah I unlocked the damn thing just for that). You won't spin very fast compared to other sims, but you will spin for as long as you apply those controls.

*edit* It might not fel like you're stalling because of the thrust vector nozzles and cannards working against it, combined with the overall benign stall characteristics of the Su-27 airframe - I mean this thing is designed to recover from a pilot induced spin by itself. Just take another look at that video Kegety's posted and tell me if it dosen't look like a VTOL at some parts.
