Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted May 8, 2003 I am working on a Cuban island, and I was wondering what textures I should use to do the island with. Everon, Malden, Kolgurev, maybe the Ia Trang valley if it is allright with select this? Maybe tavorish can help?
SFG 1 Posted May 8, 2003 Nice island, looks good in form
CanadianTerror 0 Posted May 8, 2003 Making Cuba is a great idea. The problem is that there are no Cuban troops out there to place on the map.

Everon, Malden, Kolgurev, maybe the Ia Trang valley if it is allright with select this?<span id='postcolor'> Looks really nice! Textures...ummm Definitely not Kolguev, there are some pine trees in Cuba but not that many...you'd want a lot of palm trees, banana plants, sugar cane fields, tall grass...in some places the vegetation might look a bit like Ia Trang - such as the Sierra Maestra (the south-western mountainous region where the Revolution began), but I definitely wouldn't make the whole island like that...so, no easy answer really...for best results I'd say make whole new textures for it, otherwise i'd say Everon would be acceptable. But hey, as long as you get the terrain features (and as I understand you have acces to a topographical map to do that) and the locations of the main cities and such, I'm more than happy that this is being made </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The problem is that there are no Cuban troops out there to place on the map. <span id='postcolor'> Resistance units would be pretty good for that

However, I was not able to turn it into a grayscale map and then import it into wilbur, there was 500 foot spikes in the air so I had to just take the map, save it as 256x256 with photoshop and then import it into wilbur and made the island while keeping the map in the background. So I have mountains and stuff were there are mountains in the real cuba, but I'm not sure how satisfactory it would be. I found this one texture on malden that was a dark green and looked pretty jungle like, I think it was used for the forest floor areas in malden?

Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted May 9, 2003 There was a jungle malden? I remember a Jungle everon, do you think this would work just as well for textures and plant objects? Here is a new SS in wrp

Tovarish 0 Posted May 9, 2003 Rebel Flag Also worn as an armband: Big Images - black and white unfortunately, but Cuban Rebels wore olive uniforms (if not civilian clothes) http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delaco....-26.gif http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delaco....-18.gif http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delacova/cuban-rebels/revolutionaries.gif http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delacova/cuban-rebels/che-garcia.jpg http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delaco....s-2.gif http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delaco....-21.gif Unfortunately, pictures of Batista's forces seem damn near impossible to find, but they wore Khaki uniforms with US WW2 - style helmets

GoOB 0 Posted May 9, 2003 Yay Cuba! You should get in touch with "La Revolution mod" I am a "part" of the team but i haven't done squat (well i cant ) Also for units you might mix some NAM pack helmets in with some new civilian clothes (unbuttoned shirts, slack pants and the like) With some dirt on. And for "junta" units or what ever they should be called remodelled RES units would do like removing the backpacks and changing their CPP's to carry FAL's and assorted WW2 weapons instead. Looking forward to the island mate!

GoOB 0 Posted May 10, 2003 That sounds really good, with a few two story apartment buildings mixed with some of them goverment buildings. And the size of Lipany would suit it good. And also when and if you make a runway dont use the runway textures that are on Malden,Everon and Nogova maybe some more old pre-jet textures.
Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted May 11, 2003 Hm...... is it possible to add res objects w/ wrp edit? I havent been able to figure that out Is there any pre jet runway textures?

Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted May 11, 2003 They have migs 21's dont they? I was thinking about 2-3 large airbases in the right places(Tavorish sent me a map w/ a list of all of the airports on the island) and a small dirt runway for cessnas like on north western malden. "Old Havana" has buildings that are over 200 years old. On the roads you'll see anything from 1950's American cars, to 1970's Russian Ladas to brand new Japanese cars (rentals for tourists mostly) as well as people on bicycles and horseback, but no, it is definitely not outdated in general, the main airports  for example are very modern. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">They have migs 21's dont they?<span id='postcolor'> Yes, MiG-17's and MiG-21's which are now used as trainers, and MiG-23's, and MiG-29's that are used for actual missions. Believe it or not Cuba has the best equipped military in Latin America. A few years ago I heard that they were negotiating with Russia to update some of their fighters and gunship helicopters to the latest standards, but don't know what actually came of that. *edit* Multirole versions of the MiG-23 as opposed to the MiG-27 BTW, in the way of tanks, you'd be looking at a handful of IS-2 and late model T-34's, 1100 T-55's (many modernized with additional armour, lazer targetting equipment, ect) and 400 T-62's (also modernized) as well as some PT-76 amphibious tanks
