New nvidia drivers causing me problems

Recommended Posts

FYI

Running WinXP, with patch 191- Just downloaded new Nvidia drivers and began experencing crashes (BSOD) (memory dumps? on the blue screen it gives me Nvidia driver files as being the reason) about 5 to 10 minutes into the game.

switched back to old drivers, and all is fine.

Well I thought that fixed my problem, I gues it was a combination. I forgot to mention that everytime before i got the BSOD I lost my sound about a min and a half before. Although the BSOD said it was a vid driver when I rolled back I got the BSOD again saying it was a sound driver. (SB live card I have) So I used the windows update and got the windows approved sound driver and all was fine. I played all night without a glitch. It just sucks I have to use old drivers?

Wouldn't you simply remove the drivers from CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM or similar, reboot and install an older version of the drivers? confused.gif It'll make your desktop look horrible in between but that should be it.

Once upon a time, I had detonator driver 30.82 and OPF/RES ran fine, and everything was dandy and fluffy.

Then one day, I decided to upgrade to driver 43.00, and my computer went to hell. After installing this piece-o-shite, I tried to run OPF and it would not load with a "data file too short c:\RES\ADDON\"some filename".pbo" error. I deleted that pbo file, and it was able to load. But during gameplay after 5 or 10 minutes, Operation Flashpoint would crash and freeze or my computer would re-boot. I uninstalled 43.00 and put 30.82 back. I made sure there were no conflicting files or old driver files left from 43.

The game still crashed.

So I uninstalled Operation Flashpoint and Resistance to start over with a clean slate. I reinstalled both OPF and RES. Then I defragged my hard drive.

After that, Operation Flashpoint would not even load. After clicking start, nothing happend. Then an error appeared and said a dll game file was corrupted and said program performed an illegal function and will shut down....so I replaced the corrupted dll game file with the same dll file on the game CD, then it loaded but crashed and said some config file was missing or bad.

After throwing a chair across the room, I uninstalled both OPF and RES again and then reinstalled the game and now it works. what a pain in the arse!

I have not had a chance to see if it crashes yet during game play. I tested a few missions and they work but the crashes I had was like 5 or 10 minutes into the game.

I regret the day I installed 43.00

I've been running 40.72 detonators since they came out. I'm happy. Never a problem. Don't make waves is my current graphics driver philosophy. smile.gif

I want to check my computer for old 43 driver files. Anybody know what folders/directories they are copied to?

On my machine, I have found only 2 places:

C:/nvidia

C:/Windows/System

are there any other places I need to look? I uninstalled them but you can never be sure.

THX

I'm using V43.45 without any problems. The image quality is great, and performance silky-smooth. Based on the numbers from FRAPS, these drivers are consistently about 5% to 10% faster than the V43.00 drivers I used previously.

Go to Guru3D and download the Nasty File Remover, which removes any remnants of an old Detonator installation.

thanks. I tried that a few days ago but it did not detect any 43 files. I also tried the detonator destroyer and it did not work--it came back with a message that said some files could not be removed.

Did you try running in Safe Mode? If the drivers are currently loaded, you won't be able to remove them.

yep, although screencapture programs no longer work inside games (of any kind)

I never found a need for a separate screen capture program, I've always just used PrintScreen, which works fine with the Detonators under Windows XP.

Have you tried running OFP in a window to see if the screen capture program works then? Try adding the following switches to the shortcut used to launch OFP:

-window -x=800 -y=600

Change the desired window size as needed.

For what? For my fossilized Asus Geforce2 with the rusty fan that sounds like a lawnmover the newest 43.35 drivers worked fine, and so far every Detonator release I've ever tried has worked. Along with that I use a 5 yr old Aureal-based soundcard, using Win 2K drivers in XP and that has worked with 98% of the games I've tried. It didn't work with the Sims for some reason, and OFP is runner-up for worst compatibility.

Let me just say that Creative sucks, has always sucked and is probably going to suck even worse in the future. Haven't heard too much good stuff about VIA either. If you're going to go the non-Intel route, the NForce2 chipset seems like a better choice at this point.

personally i use the 42.51's from Guru3d as they unlike the previois official drivers, 41.XX something or other caused my PC to crash when windows opened with my Geforce 3 ti200. They are the most stable for me

I've found these drivers to be good except for one exception. For some reason, if I use any form of anti-aliasing with the new IL-2 Forgotten Battles, the monitor is turned off when the game starts up. But with OFP I can use full AA without any problems.

To those who are experiencing problems, are you using the new DX9.0 or even the newer 9.0a? If not, that might help.

I personally found significant improvement in PC performance after both DX9.0/a and the new Detonators.

System (for what it's worth):

Gigabyte 8INXP (F4 BIOS) (onboard sound & LAN disabled)

Intel P4 2.4GHz (533MHz FSB)

Thermaltake Spark 7 CPU cooler with Shin-Etsu thermal paste

Crucial 1Gb DDR266 PC2700 RAM (non-ECC, CAS 2)

Western Digital Caviar SE 80Gb HDD

Creative GeForce 4 Ti4200 64Mb, Driver: 43.45 (AGP aperture 256Mb)

Creative Audigy 2, Driver: AUD2DRVL11030205

DELL M991 19†monitor

Windows XP Pro with SP-1 (most services disabled)

DX 9.0a (full hardware acceleration)

Intel chipset software installation utility (4.30.1006)

Intel application accelerator (2.3)

Monitor refresh rate set to optimal with RefreshLock

Alx (who has returned to OFP after an 8 month absence)  crazy.gif

Well I rolled back to 30.81 Nvidia drivers and installed the windows update version driver for my SBLive card, and the game played fine!

I installed the DirectX 9a driver and reinstalled new Nvidia and new SBLive driver(from creative) and played all night last night without a problem!
