Mi 28 news on flashpoint newscenter

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on Flashpoint.ru (both english and russian sites) here. Seems Red Star Studio is doing more than just developing great looking T55's.

Finally something to counter the Apache.

Sincerely,

Gaultesian

Nice, but I think you could have used the Red Star Studios update thread just below this smile.gif

True, but the thread started by Red Star Studios talks about the tanks they are currently working on, and on their site they have no pics or mention (as of the time of my writing this) regarding the MI 28.  A new topic seemed justified because it may be drowned out in the Red Star thread due to the fact that it is mostly about their upcoming T55 tanks.

Sincerely,

Gaultesian

Well why not, but Mi-24 Hind was built in late sixties and Apache in mid eighties. And as far as I know Mi-28 is having a competition with Ka-50/52 of next gen. Russian attack helicopter.

well the hind is still THE flying tank while the apache is a sneaky-no-one-sees-me-stab-you-in-the-back type of a helicopter which uses tree cover to sneak up, shoot and quickly finish the job.

Norsu..the Mi-28 lost that contest back in the 90s..the Ka-50 was chosen but only a handful ever entered service as an "evaluation squadron" - Lack of $$$ of course. Mil gave up on the basic Mi-28 and started work on the Mi-28N - optimised for night attack and using some western electronics etc. It still hasn't been ordered by anyone AFAIK although the Russian defence ministry claims to be still interested..alot of the Russian hardware contests in the 90s seemed to go the same way..sometimes both sides would claim to have been picked as the winner and very little would happen.

The Mi-24, Mi-28 and KA-50 all serve somewhat different purposes on the battlefield. The Mi-24 is huge, well armoured, designed for close strafing runs and to drop infantry into the battlezone. The Mi-28 is the Russian version of the AH-64; a sophisticated weapons platform designed to locate and target armour at relatively long ranges using pop-up tactics to evade counterattack. The KA-50 is an agile 'fighter gunship', meant for rapid response to various threats including airbourne as well as ground forces. Obviously in OFP these differences are less well defined (the AI at least treats one gunship much the same as the next), but the differences are there nonetheless.

As for the Mi-28 itself, I can't wait to see it in the game. It truly is a beast, carrying twice as many ATGM's as an Apache with standard load (8 Hellfires, 2 rocket pods) and still having the rockets and a large 30mm cannon to boot. It's also got the fire control radar of the Longbow for long range target acquisition. Drool is not the word. biggrin.gif

Mi-28 and KA-50/52 are the best and most effective choppers in the world. The Comanche probably is a good helicopter, but what are the odds it's really going to enter service without the problems that have plauged its developments.

I hope they post some more screens.
