let's say that Stargate is the program/mission name and SG1 the unit name

SG-1 is the name of the team in the show. There are many other teams on the show SG-6, SG-29, SG-420 etc etc. SG-1 is the first and main team that does all the cool stuff in the show. tounge.gif

Some things in life come with a small fee and if waiting in line for a short while is the fee so what. All the work on @WAR is done for free not one person gets paid.

I guess that SG-1 means Stargate Group 1

as there is many Groups in the TV show, SG1 (exploration) to SG15 (diplomatic relations)

There is also SG3 (Marines assault team).......

It is exactly as saying...

"Bomber B-52" = "Bomber Bomber Fifty Two"

"Fighter F-16 = "Fighter Fighter Sixteen"

"PC Computer" = "Personal Computer Computer"

etc...
