zeep 3 Posted February 26, 2003 Hi all. A long time ago i played Ofp on my friends computer a few times. This was a very early ofp install, Â no patches or anything. Anyway, i can't really remember much of the game other than having some problems with setting movement keys. Lately i've seen offers to buy Ofp + renaissanse and another expansion of which i forgot the name. ( around 44 euro / $42 ) I'm wondering if i should get it. I guess the main reason for my doubts is that i know so little of the game other than it has had loads of patches. So i would like to ask you some questions, some opinions etc.. - My favourite game ( online ) is Day of Defeat - a Half Life mod. This game offers great teamplay and some stealth and fast paced moments all in one. ( differs from map ) So please excuse me that most my questions sort of 'come' from my dod experience. -1- How is OFP online? Is it every man for himself or 'no i in team' ? Â ( the community? ) -2- How is the netcode? ( i have an adsl connection ) -3- What kind of gamemodes does OFP have? Â Only TDM ? ( i hope it has some more than that ) -4- When joining a game on internet, does one have to wait long to play? -5- Is it true that one cannot reload when walking?? -6- Finally, Â would you recommend me to get it? I understand that i can find most of these answers searching on the internet, and i have read reviews and such, but it's just that your opinions here weight most. I dont want to buy a game i'm not going to play online with passion! Thank you for reading all this.
Placebo 29 Posted February 26, 2003 -1- How is OFP online? Is it every man for himself or 'no i in team' ? ( the community? ) Opf is good online, better if you join a squad as you have a core group of people to regularly play with (look in the squads forum if you wish to join one as plenty have advertised there). -2- How is the netcode? ( i have an adsl connection ) For the amount of information that needs to be shifted about I think the netcode is excellent. -3- What kind of gamemodes does OFP have? Only TDM ? ( i hope it has some more than that ) Co-op, DM, TDM, capture the flag, RTS, modes are only really limited by the imagination of the mission makers -4- When joining a game on internet, does one have to wait long to play? There is no "join in play" so if you join a server where the game has just started you will have to wait for it to end. -5- Is it true that one cannot reload when walking?? Yes. -6- Finally, would you recommend me to get it? Yes.
Col. Kurtz 0 Posted February 26, 2003 I would say everyone on these forums, including myself, would recomend Operation Flashpoint, espicially if you get Resistance (which has graphical and gameplay improvements). I also play DoD and like it, but OFP is very diffrent to DoD. DoD is more like a street fighting simulator, while OFP is an open country fighting simulator. In dod your croushing, moving around corners, throwing grenades in to windows and the like. In OFP you will find your self trotting across the countryside, going prone once you sight an enemy and having a long range gun battle. OFP doesn't really have good streetfighting, but it does have towns in which you can fight in. But OFP has a lot of things DoD doesn't have, and I doubt ever will. First of all, it has vehicles. Tanks, planes helicopters and ships, and they are all avaliable to be controlled by you, the player. There is so much more, the islands that are kilometres wide, the awsome add-ons, the easy to use mission builder etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on and on, but I will let other people fill you in on the stuff I haven't covered. My overall point being, OFP is quite diffrent to DoD, and is not your average close space first person shooter.

Res is a huge improvement over the original IMO, plus almost all new addons are for it.
Mister Frag 0 Posted February 26, 2003 I would simply download the Resistance demo and try it for yourself.
Koolkid101 0 Posted February 26, 2003 When I first bought Operation flashpoint I thought what kind of crummy game is this because with delta force, and Counter Strike you move alot more diffrently. But once I got used to I learned to enjoy it, and the addons. But a note is that its really hard to play delta force black hawk down now, and df2 cause I've been playing so much operation flashpoint. All and all its a better game then half life and delta force. And by the way the firearms mods allto more fun for HL and can you tell me how to get omha beach to work on dod. walker 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Operation Flashpoint or OFP as it is known in the Community is the most real Battlefield simulation there is on the market. In fact it is so real it is the basis for the Sim of choice for training the US marines ( http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com/ ) It is also the Modders choice with a scripting interface that has allowed it to be turned in to a fully fledged Strategic Battle Sim ( http://www.main.thechainofcommand.net/ ) or any system you would care to design ( http://www.ofpec.com/ ) Add to that development tools that allow you to create whole new islands 10s of kms across or any object you desire from your own avatars and soldiers to tanks, airplanes, cars, ships, aircraft carriers and even flying saucers. If you imagine it you can make it in OFP. ( http://ofp.gamezone.cz/ ) Just look at the plethora of add-ons there, and that is just a fraction of the thousands you can download for free. But it don't stop there there is an inbuilt mission design tool which means you can make your own missions in minutes (What Counter Strike people call Maps) on terrains you really get lost in; and there are thousands of missions for free built by a community of dedicated mission designers. And then there is that community with helpful people ( http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/index.htm ) A massive forum ( http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard301/ikonboard.cgi ) dedicated news hounds ( http://www.opflashpoint.org/ ) and crazy creative people building everything from Napoleonic conflicts through the two world Wars ( http://www.invasion1944.com/ ) the Vietnam conflict, modern battle fields like Afghanistan and The Gulf; to wars we have not yet fought. Then there is the Multiplayer capabilities where battles combine everything from CQB to capturing a whole island by controlling the factories that build your soldiers, tanks, aircraft, and ships; in a community again but this time made of warring clans and lone guns looking for a rep. All in all OFP is a warriors heaven. Kind Regards Walker

Can you specate the game then? Just finished downloading the Res demo. I'll try it out right now! *- One more thing, i have an AMD800 + GF2 pro 64mb. How will it run? zeep 3 Posted February 26, 2003 I just played the res demo, Â and i see the game takes some getting used to. Â *wipes sweat* Somehow i couldn't manage to get iron sights. The battle itself is very intense! It's cool that you get orders. ( even tho i didn't have the slightest idea where to look and where to go because the yellow 'target' kept disappearing and reappearing somewhere else ) It is a bit heavy for my pc i guess. Can anyone explain me why all the text in the demo are blurry? Â I tried 2 different resolutions but it didnt make a difference. Also, please, how do i raise my sights? cheers
hovmand 0 Posted February 26, 2003 I have no clue on the blurry text thing, try and ask The avon lady or check out her FAQ http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/ I think the default iron sight key is V.

Also, please, how do i raise my sights? cheers<span id='postcolor'> That yellow box (target, mount etc) only appears for a brief moment when playing on Veteran. When it pops up at a new place , that means your CO have assigned you a different target/order. OFP is very demanding, especially resistance (because the long viewdistances, number of units etc). You can change the viewdistance in Options. In the long run you would want to upgrade your PC. Let's face it, a 800Mhz is kinda old these days. Why the text on-screen is blurry is probably you have chosen high/best performance in your D3D-settings for your video-card. Try "best image quality". If you have handgrenades selected instead of your weapon, then the ironsight won't show up (understandably). Hope this clears things up for you. Now go out and buy Resistance. It features and outstanding campaign and lots of new toys for you to play with. Res includes all the new weapons that were introduced in Red Hammer(OFP Gold). For a fully updated game you need OFP+RES+patch 1.91b. The patch can be found on this website
