In fact I decided not to make somali soldiers per se, but rather African militia. As vade said so they can be used in a variety of settings. All in all there are ten new unit models (8 militiamen and 2 government forces). The militiamen mostly wear civilian clothes (ie plain colored shirts and pants) and have a variety of headgear. Some are more quasi-military with webbing and maybe camo jackets. They are armed with weapons from Keg's russian weapons pack, as well as generic ak's. The government forces camo is based on a number African military camo's as took make them also fairly generic...there is a "black-beret" officer and "capped" rifleman. I've armed them with Fals. The one other thing I would like to do is to make a small weapons pack for the militiamen using the ingame models but turning up the dispersion effect in the cpps. It was vade's idea and I think it will help make the units seem less well-trained. I'm also looking into the idea of getting some technicals implemented...<span id='postcolor'> I would very much like to see high dispersion weapons included. I've been doing a lot of reading about the various wars in Africa over the last 20 years (mainly the Congo, Chad and Southern Africa) and in the vast majority of those wars, the "soldiers" (both governmental and rebel) were rarely more than people who take up arms because: 1. they can loot, extort or conduct other for-profit activities, 2. if they don't, their families will be shot 3. they have nothing better to do/nothing to lose 4. they are too young to know better. I think that supplying these guys with HD weapons will allow correct simulations of these kinds of "Bush Wars" that rage in Africa. And I would also suggest that if you should make any groups, make the leader a private to allow the group a greater chance to panic and flee. I would even go so far as to encourage you to create a whole "Bush War" addon pack, with an entire array of HD weaponry that could be used to arm poorly trained armies in Asia, Latin America and Africa. And maybe generic government/rebel models and groups for all three regions. Latin America would have a government group with: 1 Officer (OD or Jungle cammies, cap, colored neck scarf) 4 Riflemen (with steel-pot helmets or boonie hats, G3 rifles) 2 Grenadiers (same as riflemen, with M203s or similar) 1 Machinegunner (with FN-MAG) (and darker-skinned faces, maybe large colored shoulder patches) A Latin American rebel group would have the following: 2 well-dressed thugs (body guards? with MP5s and sunglasses) 4 Mercenaries (various mixed camo uniforms, SEB Nam AKs or M-16A1s) 2 Machinegunners (mixed uniforms, SEB Nam RPDs or M60s) 2 Civillian militias (represent the campesinos who actually make the cocaine and move it around, with pistols, shotguns, etc. dressed in civillian clothes, maybe a camo shirt or hat) And so on... bibmi 0 Posted February 23, 2003 You must be psychic Hellfish 6 In the works are these African militia (near completion) South American Rebels and Government Forces (models are nearly done) European Terroists - based on a number of different organisations that have been active in the past and some that are still active today (about 80% complete)
hellfish6 7 Posted February 23, 2003 Excellent. Would you mind posting some pics of the South Americans? And African governmental troops? I can wait, but I'm really curious to see what you guys are doing. Edit: And, out of curiosity, what "side" will they be on? East or Resistance? You could make the case that both rebel and governmental forces could go either way, but they can't be on one side at the same time. It seems to me that one solution would be to make one set of governmental forces on the WEST side, another identical one for RESISTANCE and the rebels would be EAST with another identical set for RESISTANCE as well. This of course could clutter your unit menu, but I think it's very flexible. There are times, for example, when governmental forces fight alongside western units and there are times when the rebels do. And, of course, there are times when rebels and governmental forces will be fighting the west together. All have historical precedence.
TopCover 0 Posted February 25, 2003 Great idea, hellfish. Those are good suggestions. Kinda think of it, RES side has always been the side  in the game that is really under-represented in amount of addons. Para militairy outfits would be great, half camo, half civvie with some webbing and packs, djeballah, (or the right name for that Arabian headscarf  ), etc. We know by now that a technical is high on the request list. BTW, why hasnt nobody come up with a retextured M113 or jeep with machinegun? Seems a pretty good choice for any generic RES force with a more western gear inclination. I just loved Martins RES Bell heli with MG for that matter! More o' that stuff please! L8R, TopCover
bibmi 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Okay here's a pic of the South American units (some of the textures are courtesy of Ebud) http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/images/sam1.jpg There are actually 10 different units in the addon, same as the African militia... bibmi 0 Posted February 26, 2003 And some more ingame pics of the Militia and African governemnt troops (again thanks to Ebud for cleaning up some of the textures) http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/images/afr1.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/images/afr2.jpg
N.o.R.S.u 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Those look great. If possible could you give some of those South American units similar scarf or rug this guy has around his neck: http://www.planetsoldier.com/images....006.jpg And maybe add something similar to cover soldiers face just like in SoF2. L8R, TopCover<span id='postcolor'> A lot of third-world armies/militias use M-113s and jeeps with the DsHK Russian 12.7mm MGs. Maybe someone with some talent could put one of those from the SEBNam 2 pack onto the stock M113 or Jeep. As it is right now, Operation Northstar has an M113 model armed with an FN MAG, which is just as good. Only drawback is that there is a big black maple leaf on the sides. Blacky 0 Posted February 28, 2003 I just found a site that has almost everything what a BHD mapper needs. (Info about the operation, REAL radio transmission like this http://inquirer.philly.com/packages/somalia/audio/radio8.ra where you can here Mike Durant screaming for his Co-Pilot just before the crash. There are also maps and pics.) So, here´s the site http://inquirer.philly.com/packages/somalia/sitemap.asp

Shashman 0 Posted March 1, 2003 Damnit! Stupid Real Audio...It used to be free now you gotta fill in some stupid form...Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! And all the good audio files I find are bloody Real Audio of course!
Blacky 0 Posted March 1, 2003 Well Real Audio is still free. I´m not paying anything for using it... All the audio clips are pretty low quality, but you can use them for ambience in BHD missions, like in the airfield or in the streets at the same time player sees Black Hawk going down smoking. peanuckle_00 0 Posted March 1, 2003 Someone I know named morkus rex was going to edit Mechanic's ford pickup to change it into a toyota and add a gun on the back. It was a black pickup and he didn't feel like making it white because he says textures are a hassle to he gave up. The Ford pickup is at ofp.info in the vehicles section. It looks like a pickup truck. If you get mechanic's email you can ask him if you can edit it and there you are, or you can make one from scratch.
