Carrying two guns instead of law/rpg?

Recommended Posts

Why is it not possible to carry 2 guns in OFP? I mean if a soldier is able to carry a LAW/RPG launcher and a machine gun, then why not 2 machine guns?

This idea comes from America's Army where you CAN carry 2 rifles, which IMO is more realistic.

Is it because you can only carry 1 sort of ammo? Why not to change that you can carry ALL sorts of ammo?

If anybody knows hot to change it please tell!

you could make a script with an action command to change your weapon from one to another, but they'd have to use the same ammo. I suppose it would take a more complicated script for different weapons and bullet types.

Because soldiers only carry two rifles in movies. Besides, it's a balancing issue: this isn't Quake, or even Delta Force for that matter.

Tried this some time ago too, and it doesnt work (M16+M249)

You have to make a new animation for the secondary weapon, and you have to define new classes.......... confused.gif

ok if this is so unrealistic then why America's Army 1.5 has this option? I mean they triy to make the MP game as realistic as possible and I know of some soldiers that are carrying 2 rifles! Especially sniper rifle and assault rifle or at least a sub machine gun like the mp5.

But if this is making to much trouble then I can live without it!

To Avon: The last version of Novalogic's Delta Force I played was Land Warrior, about 2 years ago. Can't remember if you could carry 2 rifles there. But have a look at America's Army. (MP shooter for free developped by America's Army) Anyway there are some features that I would like to see in OFP. Like the jam with the magazine which is very common to the M16 assault rifle. But Maybe IL or OFP2 will unveil some new features. Who knows?

Someone made an MP5K addon that you use like a pistol, so you could use that with a sniper rifle.

Also, the ingame Ingram ans Skorpion both make reasonable secondary weapons.

I would love to be able to have a sniper and a rifle, I mean, isn't it frustrating when you play as a sniper and are going in for some close quarters battles to only have a crappy pistol to defend yourself with?

It's not unrealitic to have a primary, secondary, and a sidearm. I've seen many pics of American soldiers carrying an M16, but still having a Remington shotgun, and a Beretta M9.

Ack... I messed around with America's Army a little bit and didn't find it very realistic overall. OFP is definitely alot more realistic I thought. Except for a few specialized troops or in special situations, normally a soldier will only carry one main weapon which is his rifle. Some troops may carry a sidearm (a pistol). But very rarely will you find a soldier carrying two rifles unless, as someone else mentioned, it's a rifle and a shotgun, or a sniper rifle and a SMG or a carbine for example.

One reason for this is that it's a matter of weight. Rifles are heavy and you don't carry two types of rifles or machine guns unless you REALLY need both of them. A combat engineer perhaps may need to carry around a shotgun in addition to his rifle because the shotgun is needed for clearing trenches, caves, tunnels, ect... but where in the fighting getting to those objectives, his rifle is more appropriate for longer range shooting.

Likewise a sniper with a bolt action rifle may need something that can fire a little quicker for close range combat. A pistol is better then nothing, but a small carbine or SMG is usually ideal.

More often then not, a pistol is all the sniper will get as a backup weapon. sad.gif

At any rate, a regular soldier very rarely carries a secondary weapon aside from AT weapons, grenades, and mortars.

Coorect me if I'm wrong, but I thought standard protocol for snipers was to operate in a team with a spotter who carried a standard rifle, and watched the sniper's back. I think they even alternate between who shoots and who spots.

sombody should make a shutgun sidearm, would be cool, animations mite look odd.

Can we make some new animations that can work along side the normal pistol sidearm animaitons, so we can assign things like shotguns or maby another rifle to use these new animations instead of the current pistol sidearm animations!

Good point - if it was a small, pistol grip shotgun (like an Ithaca Stakeout), the animations wouldn't look too bad.

Sometimes yeah. I'm not sure about U.S. Army snipers as I haven't worked with any, but that's probably correct. However I don't think they share the same sniper rifle as the all rifles are zeroed to an individual shooter.
