johnnylump 0 Posted February 4, 2003 I'm actually looking for some advice for an OFP mission I'm making that's based on real-life accounts of a battle. The accounts do not describe, however, the weapons loadout of some of the troops I'm trying to simulate. Specifically: What weapons would the following carry: A six-man SEAL reconaissance team operating in high-altitude, arid conditions, where the expected enemy would be third-world light infantry, armed with small arms and RPGs, possibly heavy machine guns. I know one of the six is carrying a M249 SAW. What would the other five have? All M4s? How many grenade launchers? A second SAW? An M240? A sniper? Thoughts welcome ... jl

The rest M4s and M-16s. It depends really on the era and the situation.
Frizbee 0 Posted February 4, 2003 Or MP-5's, depending on the mission.
ZIKAN 0 Posted February 4, 2003 I guess if you know the basics of what your mission will be about, then you can then put together a loadout to cover any situation that might occur: What is the ultimate aim of the mission? Is it recon patrol, ambush patrol? snatch and grab? (kidnap)or a search and destroy mission? Is it covert or overt? What is the duration of the mission? A day? 24 hours? a week?Any resupply? johnnylump 0 Posted February 4, 2003 Thanks for the suggestions. To clarify: *Modern era, given one of the troopers has a SAW. *Mission is to establish a hilltop position to observe enemy movements in the valleys below. *Don't know on resupply, but I don't think these guys are setting up camp. They would probably be relieved or resupplied nightly.
PHY_Hawkeye 0 Posted February 4, 2003 Then I reckon the rest of the squad would probibly be armed with M4s (or perhaps M14s if it's a jungle/forested area). Maybe a 203 as well.
MrMilli 0 Posted February 4, 2003 Well, lets look at a bit of common sense, rather than what "SEAL's would do" as we don't really know. You are on about a small team six guys, so you would want to include the widest range of capabilities that you can because if the brown stuff hits the whirly thing there isn't going to be anyone nearby. For what they are doing (setting up a short term OP) they would need light arms, as a contact would not be expected, but with the SAW to provide a base of fire if they needed to withdraw. So, in my opinion, one SAW, one M4/M203, one light sniper rifle/M16 marksman and three M4's with Smoke and Frag grenades, carrying extra ammo for the SAW. Just my uninformed speculation
mr. Duck 0 Posted February 4, 2003 From what I've seen on tv, it rather depends on the individual. That's what I know, but then again, I'm no seal...
NavyEEL 0 Posted February 4, 2003 most likely m4's, one or two 203's, maybe some LAWs or AT if enemy armor was in the area, lots of grenades, and TONS of ammo. SEALs are known for packing an EXTREMELY high amount of firepower. nvg's and binoculars would be included, and if it was an observation of valley movements from a hilltop position like you explained, then its pretty likely that a sniper qualified member would be in the group. but aside from the grenadiers, sniper, and AT soldiers, everyone else would be outfitted with m4's. eh remraf 0 Posted February 5, 2003 Seals mainly carry the Colt 727 Carbine (Known as the CAR-15 btw). Then M249s, M14s, M60s are thrown in the mix. Any indoor ops and it will be the MP5-N.
