Arma 3 Sound files .ogg to big

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just wondering if there is a way to lower the file size for ogg sound files? I'm running a custom mission and use music and ambient sounds to make my missions feel more real. However, the size of the ogg files are adding up and I think its because of that my mission lags a lot in Tanoa, especially in the larger city areas.  Is there a tool just like for custom pictures to convert the sound files to be compatible and not take up too much room? Thanks for any advice or help 🙂

Hi Welcome to BI Forums!

idk any offhand that could help, as i dont work with sound files myself, but check out this page for tools https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Arma_3:_Official_Tools

and see if anything in the area of sound could help, maybe someone would have a suggestion, aside that ...

Tanoa's cities especially Georgetown can add to the lag as it is, its not a very optimized city, even on my computer and my fps dips when i go there,

but the lag or lowered fps also depends what you have on the map too, add in the number of AI on the map, scripts running, explosions, added objects, ect,.

I would suggest to try another map, just to test to see if it is the sound files causing the lag, best map imo to test on is the VR map, nothing there to hinder

your mission from performing the best.

What type of mission is it and how do you have it setup in the editor, any scripts?

Sure, use whatever tool to convert your sound to ogg, and just lower the bitrate.

I personally use ffmpeg to convert my audio files.

No not at all. Big audio files laying around in memory don't cause lags.

Thanks guys for information. I'm doing an ALiVE based mission on the recent conflict/unrest in the Philippines. Tanoa seems to be the best map to use as its broken into many islands just like the Philippines. Its a long longevity mission. I use mods which i know can cause issues but all in all everything is fine there. I have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 which I run in 4k.

The larger the mission size the slower the load times will be for loading the mission.Due to the load times being longer for all jip players the server performance starts to suffer.Especially in a high traffic environment.Something to keep in mind.
