Well, it didn't take me long to find a way to that link, but it's rude not to post a link when you start a thread like this. tounge.gifsmile.gif

btw: Tornado V1.11 from G8-Mod is available, too! MW-1 (Mehrzweckwaffe-1, config here: bomblet dispenser) works and creates a long line of devastation...

Well the model is nice and all but it has several issues

1. Gun scope/optics doesnt work.

2. It only has main gun, dunno about in i RL but i think it should have a MG too

3. TOO MUCH ARMOR.. its fucking indestructible!

If thats fixed it'ill be a GREAT addon!

yeah that makes the addon really shitty until they fix that.

Ah, it would still be good as AI driven fodder, but i got my pride seriously injured when i commanded my T80U and expected the four centauros to be easy prey, but not so... I first tought it was somekind of bug but i saw two reflex missiles hitting the mark and i just shrugged in disbelief as i saw the sabots start raining at me...

I really liked the tank and actually can forgive some of the bugs (although I hope at least they make a gunsite).  However the biggest thing that pissed me off was the insane armor levels.  I know this tank is their baby, but the tank is made to be very lightly armored and to rely on speed to avoid getting hit.  One shot from a tank should blow it to bits much like how one tank around will destroy a BTR-70 or M113 APC.  In real life, even a BMP-2's 30mm auto-cannon should easily destroy the Centauro.   sad.gif

Also one other minor note...the gun barrel seems a little too skinny for a 105mm armanent. The diameter of the barrel should be a little bit larger I think. As it is it looks more like a 40mm auto cannon or something. From the pictures I've seen, the cannon looks a bit bigger. Pictures and info on it can be read at:

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/centauro.htm

As it is I certainly would never use it in any mission.  But if they fix it to realistic armor levels and add in a gun site, I'd love to use it for OFP missions simulating NATO missions in which perhaps this tank might participate in combat alongside U.S. and other European forces.   This addon really begs to have justice done to it as the model is just beautiful.  I really hope they won't abandon it like they did their M113 pack (who's mortar APC for example had serious problems) or like they abandoned their F-104 Starfighter.   sad.gif   At least Colorchanger has been good at updating his Tornado (which now I think has most of the major bugs taken care of).

Hopefully he'll encourage the rest of his team to show as much dedication to the G8 armored vehicles... and I hope they fix up that F-104.  That's a very interesting aircraft.

I was hoping that they'd fix up that crash infested Italian army pack that they host as well.

It's great until it crashes. crazy.gif

Correct me if im wrong but its only cpp file editing that needs to be tone with the centauro, and then itll be perfect!

btw, its armor value is 800, compare to sigmas t-80bv wich has a value of 560!!!

Well the gun barrel could be a tiny bit bigger (although that's not a big deal and it's fine if they leave it), however creating gun sights for the gunner position I assume requires more then just an updated .cpp configuration.... although I guess not any new modeling. Just a new gun sight texture.

F.Y.I. you yanks are going to love this...the u.s. army seing the effectiveness of the canadian coyote recce vehicle which is a Lav type vehicle...have opted to contrract G.M. of canada (the makers of all Lav's) to build there own version.

armed with a 105 main gun instead of the coyotes 25mm chaingun...the point is, for all you yanks who are into "real" war games this addon looks damn close to the real thing...

and for all you bitchy people ITS BETA.

I don't think I or anyone else every complained about the Centauro not being a very cool and capable weapon system.

What we were complaining about is that the armor level is EXTREMELY unrealistic on this addon. I am well aware of the

of the LAV-105. However while I think they are useful vehicles for certain types of missions I question the U.S. Army's vision of replacing most of its heavy armor with these LAV's. Here's a good site concerning many of the problems with the LAV III.

http://www.geocities.com/lavdanger/

At any rate I still hope someone makes a LAV-25 because that's what the US Marines use (and Canadian armed forces among others) and I do really like this Centauro addon. I just hope that G8 fixes it up so that it's a bit more realistic...and that they get a proper weapon sight on it.

That website is pretty slanted. I've got friends in the 3rd Bde of the 2nd Infantry Div who love their Strykers. Not the least of which is because it takes 10 minutes to change a tire, and two hours to fix a thrown track. Many armies in the world use light armored vehicles to great effect in combat - look at the South Africans and French! They've fought many low-intensity wars almost entirely with armored cars and have done very, very well.

Also, these are the units slated to get the Stryker:

3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division

1st Brigade, 25th Light Infantry Division

172nd Brigade

10th Mountain Division

2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment

56th Brigade, 28th Infantry Division Pennsylvania Army National Guard

There's only one armored/mech brigade on that list (3/2 Inf). Everybody in the Armor branch has been screaming that they're turning in their tanks for tin-cans. Where and why do they get that idea?? Almost all these units are light infantry! And the 2nd Armored Cav will finally be armored again! No more HMMWVs to putz around in.

Sorry 'bout the OT. biggrin.gif

Well all know about the LAV-IIIs and Strykers. And not all of them are going to have the 105mm gun. There are I think 12-16 different versions.

And as for us being 'bitchy' people, nowhere did it say that the Centauro was a BETA model. We all downloaded it under the impression that it was a final model. Now that we know that it is in fact a beta, we haven't been bitching. We've offered only constructive criticism, so far as I have seen.

God.. people with bad attitudes must be breeding around here.

@ hellfish6

I think what most of us DAT's are screaming about is the concept of, you have to be ALIVE to change the tire smile.gif

Downscaling the armor protection while the rest of the planet is busy upscaling the capability of your average MANPAT seems a tad,....dangerous? tounge.gif
