Making the fire extinguisher work?

I'd want to do this without a mod; Searches turned up not much that is recent...

 

Now that we have a fire extinguisher object in the vanilla game, it seems a shame to have it just as a prop.

 

I realise that the fire on a recently destroyed vehicle can't easily be put out, at least, not the last time I fiddled with it, but it is possible to use a fire object to simulate a fire.

 

I'm thinking, have an addaction on the object, attachto it to the player's hand.

 

Create a fireobject as required.

 

When the extinguisher is pointed at a fire, have it spew some particles, delete the fire object. Objective complete.

 

Is it that simple?

Might help to delete the burning effect on regular vehicles, no idea if this still works.

Thanks grumpy, I was just about to search for that post :)

I'd really love to see a mod that adds spreading fires along with that extingquisher. Might be a bit tricky to do and probably quite performance intensive, but still...

That would be awesome, with varying spread by terrain type. That sounds like something I would like to do in the not so distant future
