jfri 0 Posted November 14, 2002 I would like some advice how to succeed in OFP. It seems impossible to stay alive. I have read the advice in the manual and I know don't sit still look around etc. It's still difficult and I'm playing on the simplest possible level. For example if I'm not in command what can I do to avoid the whole squad to be eliminated? What can I do if it's dark and you can't see the enemy? The enemy does not seem to have problem seeing me? If not, you may be in a mission where you have to find NVGs or kill an enemy and take his pair.

The enemy does not seem to have problem seeing me?<span id='postcolor'> It's a small lack of feature in Flashpoint, simply speaking. Even without NVGoggles, enemies are extremely good at shooting you just as precisely as they would during the day. As far as detection at night, I think it's pretty realistic. If you run then you have to understand your footsteps will make noise. At night when everything is quiet the enemy can easily determine the general direction of where the sound is coming from and thus detect you. Although yes, they should be far less accurate with their weapons at night than during the day if they don't have NVGoggles. The thing with getting shot is that as long as you don't fire enemy will consider other troops that are firing to be more of a risk. If you're going to shoo then go prone, shoot and kill, then quickly change position. Once you shoot the enemy will easily detect you and shoot back, so I wouldn't recomment opening fire on 4 Ruskies from 300 meters away. In conclusion, just play and practice, that's how everyone else learned it. Nothing like experience.
Harnu 0 Posted November 14, 2002 Maybe it's just me. But sometimes the NV goggles seem damn useless. They help me more when I put them on for a little, then take them off and everything seems brighter for a lil.
cybrid 0 Posted November 15, 2002 I honestly seem to think that some John Wyane heroics seem to work, but only when your in a large squad. Of course you'll be loadin your game alot. When I was in command in one of the last missions in the game (where you ambush the russian base) I took out almost an entire squad with my M21, only missing 1 soldier, which one of my other guys got. I'm only really effective with a sniper, nothing else.
Tovarish 0 Posted November 15, 2002 One thing i've found is the AI always seems to determine where enemy gunfire is coming from very accurately, but when hand grenades are thrown their way, they're clueless. Another thing I learned very early on in Flashpoint: Bushes are your best friends. Use cover as much as you can, and avoid running across the battlefield as much as you can. Crawl! Major Fubar 0 Posted November 15, 2002 Cover is better than concealment, and concealment is better than nothing. When you're getting shot at, get down and grab some cover if at all possible. Vehicles, buildings, rocks etc. And for me, personally, I think the AK is better ingame than the M16. When you're up close with the enemy, flick it over to full auto. cybrid 0 Posted November 15, 2002 Bushes at night are the best. In the steal the documents mission I hid in a bush just outside the base and sniped about 20 soldiers and they still couldn't figure out were I was even though some came within 20m of me. Lord Ryan 0 Posted November 15, 2002 I hate NV goggles,i screws your vision and a green screen doesnt help (im not moaning i know well theyre green in real life)so i generally not use them and try my best in the dark i always prefered missions when you are a private because when you lead a squad i always take a long time to orders my soldiers around and i always get shot
jfri 0 Posted November 15, 2002 >you just as precisely as they would during the day. Â As far >as detection at night, I think it's pretty realistic. Â If you run >then you have to understand your footsteps will make noise. So OFP correctly simulate this feature? As far as all other advices given here, I'm aware of most of them (except sound from footsteps anf nightgoogles, I will try thinking about that) but I still find the game very difficullt

It´s not difficult when you watch the guards movement pattern for a little while before sneaking in. The most exciting part in that mission is when you crawl in the front door on your belly, knowing you can be detected any second! Cool mission.

Cool mission.<span id='postcolor'> Crawl through throught the door? well before I even got into the base a T-72 just happend to roll past and i killed the driver. So I caused a hell of alot of carnage in the base, and also killed a T-80 that was 10m away (I didn't notice), but it didn't fire at me. Also killed 2 BMP's and kept shelling the area around the house. After the house crumbled to the ground I drive towards it when 4 guys come running out (dispatched with a single heat round). I park right behind the front door, and when I come out, my only opposition was an injured soldier hideing near a tent, and a guy that came running from around back. On the drive back to the end point I had to kill and RPG soldier. In the end I got more kill than in any other mission I've ever played and probably will not match it EVER again. I must say I'm rather proud of myself.

Jinef 2 Posted November 17, 2002 on the resistance single mision where you have to laser designate the bridge i got in my tusty trabant and drove through the woods until i got into the clear. then i ran towards the church and saw 2 soldiers, dropped down and shot them. and then a BMP starts to come up towards me, is just sit there as it drives 9 metres in front of me and stops. shit. i think soldiers are gonna get out but i about turns and goes back down. I then crawl onto a ridge and LD the bridge. boom. I start crawling back to my trusty stead when 2 soldiers walk just over the ridge next to me, drop them. crawl across illuminated land and under the direct view of 2 BMPs. i then decide that my trabant can't outrun the AT4 missile so i run through the woods right into a 6 man patrol. very luckily drop them and finish the mission. Crawling is the key.

Kermit 0 Posted November 18, 2002 Cybrid, I killed every single unit in the mission you speak of. It took me days to do it, but I managed. Usually, however, I run to the house, shoot everyone quickly, run in the house, and then wait for the fuss to die down a bit before running off to destroy the helicopter base and leaving. It's all good fun. I tend to do this sort of thing on every mission where I am Gastovski.
advocatexxx 0 Posted November 18, 2002 The steal the documents mission is called Incursion (if I'm not mistaken) and it's quite easy. Just run right towards the coast and make your way through the beach. Run up the hill towards the house and after watching the Spetz Naz patrol make 2 runs you get an easy picture of their patrol route. What the hell would be the point (in real life) of stealing some secret documents if you caused such a stir at the base? The enemy would most definitely change the plans described in those documents. Sometimes it's far more rewarding to use stealth and come out a winner, completely undetected rather than save/loading for days trying to kill everyone. Typical Rambo attitude.
