Custom sounds

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how to make a custom sound for a vehicle, that can be pbo'd in the addon?   I tried to make an .ogg and include it into the pbo, and it did work, sortof, but it wasn't the same sound that I had made.

The game changes the sound to simulate throttle position and so on, and this may be sensitive to how the ogg is made.

In the config, there's a line that names the sound to be used, it is followed by two numbers:

soundEngine[]={"Vehicles\01F5",1.900000,0.800000};

Does anyone know what they do?  Volume outside vs volume inside?

I'm (as usual) not absolutely sure, but I think the first value is for volume. You can add something like db-12 to decrease the volume about 12 decibel. And the second value is for something like loop-speed (at least I think so). 1 means normal speed (100%). 0,5 is more slow, 1,5 is faster (or the other way around). Correct me if I'm wrong.

Till later, PSC

I've got the same problem. I have a real cool DC3 sound, but when it goes into OFP it sounds like one of those cheap flight sims that were made for computers around the dinosaur age.. 1980's. I've mucked around with those values. changed the sample rate, but still no throaty sound.

I dunno what happens when you use different settings (8/16 bit, mono/stereo, 22/44/48 kHz, 64/128/192 kbps, etc...), but I think OFP at lest converts the sounds to 16 bit mono, 44 kHz. So there will be no use of your DC3 (is it similar to AC3 5.1 surround?) I guess.

The third parameter is the pitch, which is also changed with the engine rpm.

Isn't that a plane....?

yeah, DC3, AC47 C47, Dakota.. all the same plane. The sample wav is 44mhz 16 bit mono. I'll have to play around with it. The aircraft sounds dopey as a jet (su25) sound, and just as dopey with the cessna sound too.
