shim 0 Posted August 14, 2016 Hey guys, I'm late to get into Arma 3 and I'm wondering what is considered the latest, greatest and most complete AI mod? I loved the original OFP back in the day but imo it's disappointing to how little the series has advanced in some areas, especially AI.
Gunter Severloh 4063 Posted August 14, 2016 Hi cant really answer your question in terms of whats the latest and greatest AI mod, imo i think its a personal thing based on what someone wants to experience in there game. I used to be rather involved in the Ai more so with arma2CO then anything but if I can help any for Arma3, review my AI compilation list also linked in my sig which has everything for AI (I hope i got them all) listed for addons, mods, scripts, and even threads posted on the forum here, this should give you a decent reference as to whats out for arma3, see the thread here: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/165560-ai-compilation-list-of-addonsmodsscripts-misc/ If anyone has better idea what AI mods play the best in arma3 I'm sure they can tell you, hope that helps. veles-zv 176 Posted August 15, 2016 Hey guys, I'm late to get into Arma 3 and I'm wondering what is considered the latest, greatest and most complete AI mod? I loved the original OFP back in the day but imo it's disappointing to how little the series has advanced in some areas, especially AI. generally I dont use AI mods for a few reasons... each AI mod varies from one another which means varying inconsistency...for one if you make a mission with "standard" AI and then change to a AI mod you will getting different results and may even be mission breaking. if missions are made with that AI mod in minds which generally is not the case... that AI mod becomes mandatory until you change the mission files. the Ai can even break after updates or the mod becomes dead. most of the time you can script the AI to behave how you want them to, you can have a certain group of units act how you would like. Guest Posted August 19, 2016 I can be wrong, but AI mods are not about AI. No one change or modify or create Arma AI code. The things AI mods do is mostlly: - Spawn AI groups (dinamic, fixed, despawn to save resources). - Set AI skill. - Set Way Points. - Artificially change Combat Mode, velocity mode, behaviour. - Set AI customizable gear. - Make some specific behaviour with event hanlders on AI, on death, on hurt. But none mess with AI. I prefer to do each mission as a stand alone code, but for that is needed to know a bit more about code. Arma AI is completely stand alone, live and let live. They don't like and don't obey if you interfere too much. Agents units are the ones you get a lot more control about. You: go there! AI: Fuck you!

Research and experience is a beautiful thing. If someone's asking a question on a forum it's best not to give information you haven't researched, tested, or know much about. This is false information. Have you ever seen VCOM AI? And like, every other AI mod? They actually change the artificial intelligence, not just what you described. It IS, in fact, possible to do. You CAN make mods that change the base game. In fact, the very definition of a mod is something that adds to, changes, or removes from the base game. It might not be in your league but it sure as hell is in other people's. Also, your definition of AI is apparently very inaccurate so you may want to look up what it actually is. I admit this comes off a little negative and strong, but I'm brutally honest. All the time.
mikey74 186 Posted February 12, 2017 Well I got to partially agree with both of you guys. You can manipulate AI. At one point FOA was very good a getting cover and doing what soldiers do in combat. But as for playing with hard coded stuff no. But BIS did leave us modders some back doors. So I used a few back doors to make the AI act as the stories I've heard and read. So in a sense it is possible to manipulate the AI, but Can Me Genesis,Fabio, or the other guys mess with the hard coded stuff. Not on your life. If we could we would have at one point or another. That being said. Because BIS has imo made very good improvements on AI. I just took the last version of FOA and basically enhanced what BIS already had. Worked good at one point. Just they have so many updates its hard to keep up and keep mods up to date. Especially when you're just one person.
