"Royalty-free, or RF, refers to the right to use copyright material or intellectual property without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use or per volume sold, or some time period of use or sales."

Source: Wikipedia

i quoted directly from turbosquid license page, you quoted from wikipedia....

that said, if what you say would be true, i could buy a 3d model from TBSQ and sell it further while making a profit, which is false..

in short, binned p3d files isn't by any means a secure format. it is just optimized for game use.

Secure enough that unless you have a specific tool that was created to decrpyt the contents , you can't open them, secure enough to have Mikero/BIS throw a wobbler at the hacking tool made by Douggem that ripped apart pbo's and ebo's, and for him to be reported to you tube for his content.

They're Secure enough to hit people with DMCA's for opening RHS and others addon content over at facepunch, with a tool that's not open source/easily accesible and readily available to the general public, not to get at the optimised content, but to use it to debinarise the content and use it elsewhere.

It was secure enough that one of the last debinarising tools completely smashed UV mapping

Basically, you need a tool, or know how to reverse engineer binarised p3d files, and for the average ripper, that's not such an easy task.

Whilst I totally agree with you the main purpose of binarising is for optimising, but it also scrambles the content where double clicking it, will not open it, ergo, there's security built in by default.

I would class "secure" as being unable to open by conventional methods, but where specialised tools are required to open them.

Road Runner, as noted above, I don't think you understand the difference between 'Royalty Free' and Copyright.  They're not the same thing.  I'd be very careful on the internet until you get it worked out.

1. "secure enough" doesn't cut it. the tools in question does not go under reverse engineer or ripping btw (which is usually done via injecting into DX).

2. ha ha. I would hit these with DMCAs even if if the files would be openly available in .fbx format, because the RHS EULA clearly stipulates the use of our content.

3. i wouldn't call it hard to come by either.

4. again, we can argue as long as you want. Because each individual item on tbsq follows a different eula, it is surely safe to assume that a message need to be send towards the author before considering that it is allowed to re-distribute it as de facto...

also if we are talking about 3d content here, this content comes with textures which is part of the same item that is sold and covered by the same EULA. You are well aware that both .pbo files and .paa files of these textures can be opened using BI provided tools yeah?

The biggest question I have now, why do you care about, under wich license those 3d models where released?

If @grooovy uses them and you don't want to help him, because the models are bought, fine, ok, understandable.

I think noone in this thread made the models on his own, so why do you care if he gets in trouble? It is his decission to use them (if he does so), if he gets into troubles its his own fault.

i don't care at all, i just wanted to crack on the myth that buying content from 3rd party like tbsq or cgtrader means it is allowed to turn that into an addon.

why do you care if you don't mind me asking though?

Because such post are poping up in every forum, not only BI's from time to time.

only in 1% of the cases i seen such posts, where from the real content creators, all the others where from differend persons with differend intentions.

some posted it like you because they want to warn to warn people and others to destroy the project or demotivate its creators.

For myself, I consider this here as spam, because no one here made the models, so theres no sense to start such discussion. if you want to tell someone the dangers of coppyright infringements you should pm him. (and because I wrote something depending to this discusing I'm spamming too.)

I'm not trying to moderate this, but this needs to stop...

Okay....Last time I checked, this was a thread about Russian Navy vessels. Not about turbosquid,EULA's, or rights of use of people's assets.

There seems to be a lot to discuss in that area-I suggest one of you open a thread to do just that.

But this thread is for these-as yet unreleased-Russian naval assets. If they ever get released and are found to be violating some terms, then that can be dealt with, but for now nothing is happening and this is the wrong thread for this discussion to be going on in.
