Stormforge 37 Posted May 11, 2016 I have been looking around and doing some reading, but I am unsure on this issue. I am looking into making missions, and searching some of my favorite fiction for ideas. It seems direct copy and pasting of conversations and scenes is probably a big no go. How much do I need to change to be able to adapt these types of media? Can I use names, titles, logos, etc? Use the plot, but change the conversations? Jackal326 1182 Posted May 11, 2016 I can't see it being an issue as long as you're not directly ripping audio from the film (be it conversations or sound-tracks etc). If you simply use the text as a side-chat pop-up, or have other people record the lines for you I doubt it would be an issue. It would fall under fair-use/parodying so long as no direct material (the aforementioned direct sound-byte rips) were used I would imagine.
bad benson 1733 Posted May 12, 2016 isn't that kind of a grey area? like, sure it depends on the license in question but think about all those missions with custom intro songs. technically that's like uploading a song to a file hoster, so illegal. but in reality i can't imagine someone really caring unless you take let's say a whole book and put it into a mission in text form or a whole movie as an intro movie (i know, why woudl you?). i'd even say (more like guess since i'm not a lawyer  ) that even direct sound and vid bits fall under the above. an example would be youtube videos using movie scenes in a meme like fashion cut into the video. kind of a similar situation and not something i can see someone having a problem with. EDIT: grain of salt implied...
Stormforge 37 Posted May 12, 2016 Not planning on using any media like music or video clips. From my time in English Comp., I know that my writing is about as dry as reading an Army Field Manual. (Professor and I both agreed on that subject lol) The scenes I was describing will all be built in engine as part of the mission, no clips. Conversations it seems is where I will run into trouble with either, taking straight from the novel or trying to change them and not bore the audience. Yet, I would like to try my hand at making missions.
Jackal326 1182 Posted May 12, 2016 Yet, I would like to try my hand at making missions.

Mission making's easier then its ever been now with the 3D editor, the only tricky thing left is scripting, but luckily there's a whole section of the forum dedicated to helping people learn them.

And a bunch of tutorials as well. :) I have been reading up on scripting, while learning about the editor. Though last time I did anything like that was high school in the early 90's with an Apple IIc. Slow going, old dog new tricks type of thing. Local and global are a bit confusing, but I am just starting to scratch the surface.
Stormforge 37 Posted May 17, 2016 Was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any post-apocolyptic or creature/animal assets. I am currently checking out these assets in preperation to ask permission to use and then build my first mission. 3CB BAF Equipment (for backpacks) A3:Reign Of Jurassic Mod Jurassic Arma Raptor Pack RickB A3 Inventory Items ASCZ Missing Content Esseker [Dust]Sabre Extra Terrestrial Adversaries Flay Archery Fetish Mod Napoleonic Mod (for Black Powder weapons, currently watching the Black Powder Mod by Six_Ten also) Pook Nuke Silo House Operation Trebuchet: First Contact Ravage Slaughter Assests TRYK's Multi-Play Uniforms Warfare Thai CUP RHS Adam's Cars Jonzie's Mega Mod Pack Not really looking for zombies, but checking these out for stand in creatures. Dawn of the Dead: Infected Skins RickB Walkers Zombies and Demons Thoughts on a maximum number of friendly and enemy AI, both armed survivors and unarmed fast creatures (or zombies)? Lots of work to do. Here I was feeling like I accomplished something getting my first AI convoy working in the editor. Still debating if that was worse than actually escorting local nationals with their trucks breaking down all the time.
