haleks 8212 Posted March 31, 2016 Hi guys, I've been using BI's addon builder to pack my files for Arma3, but this tool has been giving me problems recently. It refuses to binarize a few files and doesn't provide any hint as to what is the problem... Seen as everyone praises Mikero's DOS tools, I gave them a go and tried makePBO. I used the most basic command with no options : makepbo "D:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Arma 3\@mod_project\addons\someFolder" It does pack & binarize everything with a "no errors" notification, but none of my functions (defined in cfg.functions) or paa files are recognized ingame... I also tried Eliteness and fixed all of the reported config problems, but packing the file with makePBO still doesn't work (and, as far as I know, Eliteness can't binarize can it?)... I'm fairly new to Mikero's tools and fiddling with DOS commands, and could use some hints on this one! ^^ I should mention that I do have a P drive set up, although all I did was to click on "mount the work drive" in A3 tools - not sure if it can be related to my issues... Apologies if the answer is obvious, but I have close to zero programming background and sometimes can't wrap my head around Mikero's documentation (not to disrespect his work!). Thanks! Jackal326 1182 Posted March 31, 2016 Get the latest version of PBOProject from Mikero's toolset, it adds a GUI so you don't have to use command-line calls to do what you want. It will also provide detailed logs and error messages should any issues occur during the binarizing/packing process.
haleks 8212 Posted March 31, 2016 Yeah, but I kinda wanted to see what those tools were able to do before buying them though. ;)
Jackal326 1182 Posted March 31, 2016 Well, there are the old (now un-supported) freeware versions that may or may not still work (given game updates since they became un-supported). I'm fairly sure PBOProject was available as part of the bundle, but I could be wrong. As to "seeing what they're able to do" I can't really help you other than merely saying they're worth double what Mikero asks for in return, and just about every addon-maker I've spoken to about them rates them higher than BI's backend toolset, so go figure :)
Richie 330 Posted March 31, 2016 I agree with Jackal, Mikero and his tools are great, he supports his work as well, i've needed his assistance many times and he's always been there :)
six_ten 208 Posted March 31, 2016 haleks as much stuff as you make, get the tools. Theyre well worth it and his support service is excellent (and decent response time considering (I think) that he and I are on opposite sides of Earth).
haleks 8212 Posted March 31, 2016 All right, you guys are starting to make me consider... :D
Azza FHI 50 Posted April 1, 2016 It also checks all the paths when packing and will report if broken, even paths to default a3 content (u need to run the a3p exe which will unpack the entire a3 addons dir onto p drive, for that to work) Took me a while to get my head around it but now it works really well. $35 per year is nothing for the time youll save in the long run imo
