lawman_actual 24 Posted January 6, 2016 Hi All Just wondering if we can get some suggestions going for good music to play while in combat. What I'm looking for is; - something with a military feel (typically this means horns somewhere in there) - something with a strong sense of urgency and drama (so likely to be faster pace and including other instruments; not just horns and drums) Only example I have found so far is the Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising theme (second half...not the throat singing) Usually when I search for suggestions like this i get either; - 'memorial type' military music; almost like a horn solo that is very sombre and not very fast paced - death metal/shredding/rock etc. - orchestral arrangements from films, which although good - lack the military element The above are examples of what I am not looking for. Thanks in advance!
DieselJC 196 Posted January 23, 2016 I've used "Voodoo" from Stevie Ray Vaughn in some missions..same tune as was in "Black Hawk Down" Diesel

x3kj 1247 Posted January 24, 2016 If you are looking for something with urgency i can highly recommend: Medieval 2 Total War OST ( My favorites are Duke of Death Destiny Solenka Crusaders Hymn of War) they have some "singing" in it, but it's without understandable lyrics basicallyRome Total War OST Link(check description) (This one has some nice combat tracks, really gets you pumping. Enemy is Near and Melee Cafe in particular. Arabic Victory is pretty good too, and some others) And the most amazing Game OST for music of this type (imo) Supreme Commander + Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance OST. (Haven't heard anything that is better yet). Link (check description for time marks) Classic tunes with lots of drums and horns. These are all top notch: Rhiza's Offensive; Supreme Commander Reprise (sans guitar); Risk Relief Victory; Art of War; United Earth Federation; Massive Attack; An Old Idea Made New; Cybran Razors; The Final Cataclysm, The Future Battlefield . There are some calmer pieces as well. I listen to it very regulary You can't purchase the Supreme Commander OST. Well you can, but you won't receive anything. I tried to order it from the official page, payed via paypal. I received nothing at all and they gave not a single response to email and help tickets at their "service" side for 1 month. Then i had paypal refund me Two Steps From Hell also have a few high paced tracks. "Glory" is neat. But some of their tracks are way too busy so that it sounds just "loud" and they are not particulary "military".
lawman_actual 24 Posted February 11, 2016 Nightmare - Perfect, you understood precisely what I was after with Assault Horizon. Also enjoyed Resist a lot. Parts of it were a little too intense, but others fitted perfectly with what I was looking for. Everyone else, I'm afraid you're not quite in the same ballpark. Maybe I was wrong to suggest urgency - the tempo in the examples you guys provided tends to be much higher than the OF:DR example I posted, which actually has a much slower melody. Also, they were typically much too high in "intensity" or "drama". I guess I'm looking for something that's not as slow as the "memorial" type military music that often comes up in searches, but is not as "end-of-the-worldy" as some of the hardcore cinematic style stuff you suggested. Best summary I can provide: "I want to feel the purpose of the overall campaign and to be reminded of the military aspect, but without being too fierce". Very specific requirements I know, but I'm just hoping to find a small playlist of songs I can use while offline that fit the bill (reference OF:DR theme). Thanks again everyone. lawman_actual 24 Posted February 11, 2016 Can I also say there is a definite NO on anything with Choral singing in it. It just casts the wrong images of other-worldly battles, not small(er) scale, real-world, calculated engagements.
Mozkelby 39 Posted February 13, 2016 I'd recommend playing some of the Black Hawk Down OSTs in the background. Most of the time I just join an All Genre room on Dubtrack.fm and play that.
