USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 20, 2002 I saw screens of your MH60 on ofp-zone.de. I have to say that looks kickass, but the muzzle flash on a minigun should be round, like on an AK47, not the "flower" style flash on an M16. Just some constructive criticism. PHY_Hawkeye 0 Posted October 20, 2002 Great to hear you guys have the barrels spinning and still allow aiming. Looks great. Can't wait to get behind the stick.
Scorpio 0 Posted October 21, 2002 actually the real life muzzle flash of the MH-60 is "bud" shaped, and it concests the size of the barrel on the minigun. I've seen it in such films such as BHD.
dm 9 Posted October 21, 2002 Yes, i agree scorpio, this has been addressed (the muzzel flash is now the correct shape and size) BTW, the spinning barrels only work with version 1.85 of resistace, so i'm afraid that anyone with a lower ofp version than this will have to put up with stationary barrels.... xmurderx 0 Posted October 21, 2002 Iam geussing the spinning barrels are new to 1.85? because my vulcan's barrel spins now, and it used to not. how nice
blackdog~ 0 Posted October 21, 2002 The spinning barrels now work on the AH-1 too... I hope the minigun doesn't have cheapo sounds that don't sound anything like the real thing. That has really bugged me in minigun addons... But other than that, it looks good!
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted October 21, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">actually the real life muzzle flash of the MH-60 is "bud" shaped, and it concests the size of the barrel on the minigun. The M-16's didn't even sound like M-16's, more like pieces of metal clanging together. During the day, muzzle flashes aren't even visible from small arms fire. Even at night, it's more of an orange/red glow. Tyler
USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 21, 2002 Assault is right. However, it really depends on the size of the bullet and the gun powder used, to get a muzzle flash. M16's and Ak's both have muzzle flashes, ive seen footage of both being fired. Most german guns such as MP5's and G3's do not have muzzle flashes, check out HK Pro, since they use a differnet powder. Miniguns do have a muzzle flash though. OFP got muzzle flashes wrong, since they would be red or orange or yellow, since it is an explosion inside the gun, and the fire has to get out of the gun. blackdog~ 0 Posted October 21, 2002 Only one I found on google
USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 21, 2002 I found a lot of pics on google of muzzle flashes, most of them on pistols, like berettas, glocks, cz75s, revolvers, and a deagle. Plus, Americas army has very realistic muzzle flashes, and im sure the army knew what they were doing. And many sources, games, and movies agree that the M16A2 has a flower style muzzle flash, due to the holes in the muzzle at the end.
dm 9 Posted October 21, 2002 In answer to the question bout sound: the minigun uses the most accurate sound i could find - this sound i know to be accurate, as i have seen and heard the m134 being fired irl. In answer to the muzzel flash - with ofp, you either have a muzzel flash, or you don't. I will speak to TigerShark about it and see what he has to say on the matter. In the film BHD, and in all other films for that matter, they use blanks, due to the fact that there is no bullet to expell from the barrel, the gas has more oppertunity to escape from the barrel before cooling down, and therefore the muzzel flashes you see in films are real, it is because the gas is still at an incredibly hot temperature that a muzzel flash is created. As USMC Sniper quite correctly said, the size, colour and existance of the flash depends on the type of explosive used, if you are stuck in the stone age and still use gunpowder there will be little or no flash, just a lot of smoke , if you are a modern soldier and use cordite there will be little or no flash, depending on the quality of the cordite. Having fired many hundreds of rounds from an L98 A1 Cadet Rifle, i can say that with most, high grade cordite you never get a flash, however, with some cheaper lower grade cordite you will. Anyway, the muzzel flash for the minigun has been set as a small bud, which looks right for the game, and it may get re-textured to a red/orange colour, the decision is Tigers' Cheers
USMC Sniper 0 Posted October 21, 2002 Cordite...gunpowder, same thing. As long as it ignites and fires bullets, its fine with me. I wish it was yellow, since that would be realistic, but a white flash is fine with me (big deal, lol) but im sure everyone else would settle for it. Very glad to hear that a proper blackhawk is being made, besides the muzzle flash (which is now realistic ) it is perfect. I like how ppl are now putting two guns on helo's, even if ones just eye candy, its very realistic eye candy.
Tigershark 0 Posted October 22, 2002 The muzzle flashes are simple textures....we can change the colour and shape...but how accurate it will be might be tough. As for sounds....I find it amusing that so many people claim to know a real minigun sound from a "fake" one. As someone mentioned....Hollywood is not an accurate reference here. DeadMeats sound so far is reasonable I believe...I aslo have a sound created by Pavehog who is a gunner on Pavehawks for ther USAF. He created it by splicing the AK47 sound and changing the pitch and several other values. Whether it sounds like the Hollywood version or not, if Pavehog gives it to me I can be pretty sure that it is accurate given the source. The sound in the end is one of the easiest modifications....so we will try and finish the modelling first :-)
