Arma 3 Launcher: Any progress w/auto download/install of mods?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit outta the BIS loop.

Is there any progress with the auto download/install of mods based on what the server is running?

Thanks ahead!

Did they ever say that's something they were considering? It sounds rather impractical to have possibly gigabytes of data downloaded to your PC through the game itself. You'd also be waiting a very long time for those mods to download if you're downloading from a server that uses multiple high-quality mod packs, such as RHS.

EDIT: Btw, if anyone else is interested in joining in on this discussion, there's a good one already going on Reddit here.

Such a feature would require centralised hosting of the mods in question. The most logical choice would be Steam Workshop. As many authors (myself included) dislike and completely disagree with Valve/Steam's Workshop License Agreement by which authors are bound once their content is uploaded, you'll struggle to get hold of many mods through this "ingame technique". As Amit used RHS as an example, you can find their stance on the subject here.

Note: I don't speak for RHS in any way, merely referencing their standpoint.

"Platform Updates"

"As we announced earlier this year, a key goal is to extend Workshop support for addons. Essentially, this means handling the discovery, installation and maintenance of all kinds of mods"

Well it'd be simple to click a cancel button if you think it's too much.

You know what's impractical, not being able to run mods because there's no easy way for public players to gather the mods you're running.
